Thursday, November 18, 5:30 pm – Frog Pond Opening Celebration

Boston Parks Commissioner Antonia Pollak and The Skating Club of Boston President Joseph Blount will host this year’s official opening of the Boston Common Frog Pond on Thursday, November 18, at 5:30 pm. The evening’s Master of ceremonies will be Dan Weinstein, 1998 and 2002 Olympic Speed Skater and National Short Track Speed Skating Champion. A world class skating show, directed by The Skating Club of Boston and their Frog Pond Skating School, starring 2006 Olympian and National Silver Medalist Emily Hughes (below) and others will be followed by free admission for all with skate rentals offered at regular price. Wednesday, November 17, 4:10 pm – 5:30 pm – Farming the Ogallala Aquifer: Short and Long-Run Impacts of Unsustainable Water Use

We promised you a year long examination of water and water related issues, so The Garden Club of the Back Bay encourages those of you interested in these matters to attend Richard Hornbeck’s and Pinar Keskin’s lecture Farming the Ogallala Aquifer on Wednesday, November 17, from 4:10 – 5:30 at the Harvard Kennedy School in Room L-382, 79 John F. Kennedy Street in Cambridge. Richard Hornbeck is Assistant Professor of Economics in the Harvard Economics Department, focused on Economic History and Development.  Pinar Keskin is a Giorgio Ruffolo Post-doctoral Fellow in the Sustainability Science Program at Harvard’s Center for International Development, and is on the faculty at Wesleyan University. Sunday, November 21, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm – Full Moon Night Hike for Children and Families at Garden in the Woods

Near the night of the “Beaver Moon.” Instructor Tracy Phipps invites us to venture out into the dark forest to enjoy the nighttime sights, smells, and sounds on Sunday, November 21, from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at Garden in the Woods, 180 Hemenway Road in Framingham. Who is still awake? What stars or planets can we spot? What tricks can we use to find our way? After your walk, enjoy hot cocoa and make a booklet of full-moon activities for months of full moons to come. For Children with Adult Companion. Pre-registration is necessary.
