Saturday, May 9, 1 – 3:30 -Influences of Time: The History, Gardens and Craftsmanship of the Shirley-Eustis House

The New England Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture and Classical America announces Influences of Time: The History, Gardens and Craftsmanship of the Shirley-Eustis House, Saturday, May 9, 2009 from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm, 33 Shirley Street, Roxbury, Massachusetts. The program will begin with David Mittell, Former Interim Director of the Shirley-Eustis House speaking on the Spirits of Valiant Shirley.  Gregory Lombardi, Landscape Architect, will give a Guided Garden Tour, and Garden Club of the Back Bay member Oliver Bouchier, Preservation Contractor, Payne/Bouchier, will discuss Construction of a Master Staircase. Beverages and light fare will be served. Prepayment by check is encouraged.  Members of the ICA and CA $25, non-members $35, $10 extra for payment at the door. Sunday, May 17, 10-4 – Mass Hort and Society Row Plant Sale at Elm Bank

On May 17 the Massachusetts Horticultural Society will hold the Mass Hort and Society Row Plant Sale, featuring thousands of perennials, fifteen local plant societies, children’s activities, garden tours, plant demo stage and the Master Gardener Help Desk.  The public really can “Ask the Experts” and add to their collections of rare and unusual plants sold by the growers themselves.  Also included is the American Rhododendron Society Sale & Truss Show in the Manor House.  Browse the historic beauty of the Chaney-Baltzell mansion, while enjoying the beautiful rhododendron show,  This is a free event.  For more information, log on to www.masshort.org.
