  • Saturday, July 3, 10:00 am – Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Walk

    In celebration of Boston’s rich history and in partnership with the Boston Women’s Heritage Trail, the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy will offer an all-ages tour on July 3rd that commemorates the life and legacy of Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. Starting at 10 AM on the Mother’s Walk in the park between Milk and State Streets, the tour weaves through parts of the North End and ends at the Rose F. Kennedy Rose Garden, where adults and children alike are encouraged to stop and smell the roses.

  • Tuesday, July 13, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Pics in the Parks Photography Workshop

    Capture Boston’s picturesque parks during this inaugural outdoor summer amateur photography workshop series, beginning Tuesday, July 13. The location is the Copps Hill Burying Ground in the North End (44 Hull Street, Boston.) Be the first to learn the tricks of taking a perfect photograph. The free evening 6:00 p.m. workshops are geared toward adult photographers. Bring your own digital or film camera and pre-registration is encouraged. Selected participants’ shots may be viewed on the City of Boston Parks Department’s fan page on Facebook and will be featured at an exhibit at Boston City Hall.   • Saturday, July 17, 10 – noon – Canning and Preserving at Cogswell’s Grant: Raspberry Jelly

    Visit Essex, Massachusetts on Saturday, July 17 (date change from original post,)  from 10:00 to noon, and join Historic New England and Caroline Craig, who worked for the Little family for more than 30 years, for a lecture and demonstration on canning and preserving. In one summer at the property she put up more than 800 jars of jams, jellies and preserves. She will make the Little family’s favorite homemade preserve: raspberry jelly.  Learn about traditional preservation methods, look at the equipment used, and see some of the produce of Bert and Nina Fletcher Little’s farm. Caroline will offer advice and expertise on techniques for preserving your own garden produce and recipes for other summer fruit delicacies.  Samples will be available for tasting.  $12 for Historic New England members, and $18 for non-members.  Registration is required.  Log on to www.historicnewengland.org, or call 978-768-3632.

  • Thursday, July 15, 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm – UNH Stormwater Center and Land Planning

    The Ecological Landscaping Association, in collaboration with the Thompson School of Applied Science. offers this professionally guided tour at the University of New Hampshire in Durham on Thursday, July 15, from 2 – 6.  The tour will include the BMP solutions at the UNH Stormwater Center, a national research site for the effects of stormwater runoff on downstream ecosystems.  The tour will also include review and site visits of the UNH Master Plan, a model of sustainable planning for New England.  As The Garden Club of the Back Bay begins its year of the examination of water issues, we felt this program would be of special interest.   $20 ELA Member, $25 Non-Member.  To register, email ela.info@comcast.net, or call 617-436-5838.  On line registration is available.
