Monday, March 28, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm – Landless Gardening Workshop

Landless Gardens allow those with access to little or no land to grow fresh vegetables like salad greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, and herbs.  Grown in a burlap bag, this urban gardening method takes full advantage of vertical space (need only two square feet!) and adapts beautifully to porches, parking spots, stoops, or any bit of outdoor space that gets some sunshine.  It adds a little green to your neighborhood, provides you with fresh food, and all the materials are cheap and completely compostable.  On Monday, March 28, from 6 – 7:30 (rain date April 4), Laurel Valchuis will present a workshop on Landless Gardens at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, 10 Chandler Street, Boston.  Laurel is a resident of the South End and is a huge advocate for sustainable food systems, especially in urban environments.  Her day job is working as an analyst for HighQuest Partners, an agribusiness consulting firm, and she spends her free time volunteering with the ARL fostering dogs, and mentoring for the Urban Improv mentoring program.  She hopes to see Landless Gardens all over Boston this summer to aid in greening up our neighborhoods, in addition to providing fresh, affordable and healthy vegetables for all.  A $5 donation is encouraged to help supply Urban Improv mentees with Landless Garden materials, and to benefit the Animal Rescue League of Boston.  Please rsvp to landlessgarden@gmail.com.
