Wednesday, September 19, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Cooking with Kale – The Powerful Antioxidant

Kale is rich in fiber and powerful antioxidants, which makes it a must-have for every healthy diet; however, cooking with it can be a challenge. At Cooking with Kale, Sue Schochet, the owner of Healthy Habits Kitchen in Wellesley, you’ll learn how to prepare this super food in a variety of tasty ways for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. The class will be held at Elm Bank on Wednesday, September 19, from 6 – 8.

We’ll prepare and sample some of these dishes, and you’ll go home with easy recipes to try at home, including a Good Morning Smoothie, Lemony Chickpea and Kale Stir-fry, Kale Chips and much more. Thursday, September 27, 7:00 pm – 2012 Massachusetts Horticultural Society Honorary Medals Dinner

The Board of Trustees of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society invites you to the 2012 Honorary Medals Dinner beginning at 7 pm on Thursday, September 27 in the Hunnewell Building Carriage House, 900 Washington Street in Wellesley.  Proceeds from this special event benefit excellence in horticulture at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society.  Honorees for 2012 include John W. Trexler, Previous Director of Tower Hill Botanic Garden, who will receive the George Robert White Medal of Honor, and writer Sydney Eddison, who will receive the Thomas Roland Medal.  Individual tickets are $113, and tickets will be held at the door.  To reserve by telephone, call 617-933-4945.  Business attire is suggested.


Thursday, September 20, 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Saving Your Tender Plants

Thursdays at the Hort continue at Elm Bank, 900 Washington Street in Wellesley, on Thursday, September 20. Why compost those gorgeous tender plants you have grown all summer? There are ways to save many of these plants without bringing the entire plant indoors. Learn the proper way to store and save Dahlias, Cannas and other tender tubers and bulbs, as well as how to take successful cuttings and winter over many other plants. The lecture will feature Carrie Waterman of Noanett Garden Club.

Presentations will begin at 7pm and go until all questions are answered. The classes are priced at $12 for members and $15 for non-members unless otherwise indicated. There is no need to pre-register and you may pay at the class.  For directions, visit www.masshort.org.
