Sunday, July 14, 10:00 am – Gardens in the Watershed Tour

Each year, The Georges River Land Trust in Rockland, Maine, hosts an immensely popular Gardens in the Watershed tour in a different section of the Georges River watershed to give visitors a sense of the diversity and beauty of the landscapes from Montville to Port Clyde, and to explore regions they may have never visited.

The tour in 2013 is the 22nd and it features seven outstanding gardens in the upper watershed of the St. George River, including a working farm, nursery, sunflowers business, and geranium mail order business.

In addition to enjoying the gorgeous gardens, the day includes short talks on topics related to gardening, and a chance to meet the garden owners. Another element of the event is a raffle offering gift certificates donated by local nurseries, florists, farms, and artisans. The tour is the primary fundraising event of the Land Trust. The proceeds from the tour enable us to work with landowners to honor their legacy of land, create and maintain the Georges Highland Path, and offer environmental education and outdoor experiences to the public. Tour tickets are $25 in advance, $28 on the day of the tour, and there is a $10 lunch option, all of which can be ordered on line at www.georgesriver.org/gardens-in-the-watershed-tour/.
