Celebrate orchid-blooming season at the Lyman Estate Greenhouses, 185 Lyman Street, Waltham, Friday through Sunday, October 24 – 26. Hundreds of orchid plants are for sale, including many hard-to-find varieties. Visit the greenhouses and enjoy gorgeous floral colors, shapes, and scents. Among the many varieties on display and for sale are cattleyas, laelias, oncidiums, Paphiopedilums, and Phalaenopsis. Their long-lasting blooms make orchids a dramatic addition to any indoor environment. This adaptable species can grow in a variety of home conditions. Sunday, October 26, 12:00 noon – 2:00 pm – Annual Canine Promenade

The Esplanade Association’s Annual Canine Promenade is just around the corner.  Don’t miss your chance to join them for this adorable parade of pets dressed in festive holiday costumes.  After the parade, attendees may enjoy coffee, treats, demonstrations, and more.  Whether you are a pet owner or spectator, this is one event that can be enjoyed by everyone.  Visit www.esplanadeassociation.org if you wish to register your dog, or for more information.  Meet at Fiedler Field on Sunday, October 26 at noon.


Fridays, October 17 – November 14, 12:15 pm – 2:00 pm – Plant Stories and Poetry Reading Group

Bring your lunch and join the Friends of the Wellesley College Botanic Garden for a weekly discussion of short stories and poetry featuring plants, October 17 – November 14, from 12:15 – 2, with experienced group leader Joan Parrish.  Joan is a WCBG docent with a master’s degree in adult education.  Each week read one assigned short story and one poem for discussion.  A variety of gardens provide inspiration for works by authors including Eudora Welty, Garrison Keeler, and Jane Smiley.  The story and poem for the first session can be picked up at the WCBG Friends office, or email wcbgfriends@wellesley.edu. WCBG members free, non-members $25.
