Saturday, May 16, 9:00 am – 11:00 am – Back Bay Fens: Visions and Revisions

This two-hour National Park Service walking tour on Saturday, May 16, from 9 – 11, will examine the multifaceted history of the Fens focusing on its transformation from “the foulest marsh and muddy flats to be found anywhere in Massachusetts” into an urban oasis of greenery. Afterwards, we will visit one of the many Boston cultural institutions that migrated to the surrounding neighborhood following the Fens’ creation, Boston Symphony Hall. Friday, May 15 – Sunday, May 17, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – 34th Annual Herb Festival & Plant Sale

The 34th Annual Herb Festival & Plant Sale at the Green Briar Nature Center and Jam Kitchen in East Sandwich offers an extensive plant sale at the best prices of herbs, perennials, wildflowers, everlastings, annuals and vegetables.

Also featured are walks through the award-winning wildflower garden and a delightful herb luncheon served on Friday. Luncheon does require advance reservations at $22.

All proceeds from the plant sale and luncheon benefit the environmental education programs of the Thornton W. Burgess Society and its Green Briar Nature Center. Herb Festival runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10-4 each day. Free admission. Saturday, May 16, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm – The Trustees of Reservations 14th Annual Spring Festival and Plant Sale

Annual Spring Festival & Plant Sale is an opportunity for gardeners to stock up on everything they need to get their gardens going each spring. Free and open to all, the Spring Festival brings Greater Boston residents together to enjoy food and music in a beautiful garden. Attendees can participate in workshops given by local experts, creative activities for kids, and exhibitions by garden-related businesses and non-profits. A wide variety of heirloom, organically grown herb, vegetable, and flower seedlings, as well as native perennials, will be available. Gardeners can also purchase supplies like organic fertilizers and cover crop seeds.Learn about beekeeping and herbal medicine, buy local plants, listen to soul and blues music, play games, and enjoy great food!
