This year we purchased a number of different small birds to perch on some of our wreaths  – cardinals, bluebirds, sparrows, owls, and unidentified generic birds. Often some of our collected materials include branches with attached pine cones, and that is the perfect place for a bird to sit. Attaching the birds is another issue, though. We don’t want to put a wire around the poor thing’s neck, garrotting it to the wreath.  One decorator discovered that by gouging out a hole in the bottom of the bird, a pick could be attached, but a few of the squeamish found the procedure unsettling.
