After a successful debut last year, Mass Audubon’s reimagined annual fundraiser—the virtual Wild, Wild Auction—will be back again this August.
The live auction was the heart of Wellfleet Bay’s annual Wild, Wild Wellfleet! summer gala. For more than 10 years, this beloved fundraiser served as the financial backbone of the sanctuary’s conservation science programs in local schools and day camp scholarships.
Last year the auction moved online and offered a range of unique outdoor experiences and locally-inspired and crafted items, many priced for every budget. The response was so strong that the sanctuary was able to generate the necessary funds to maintain education programming and camp scholarships for the following year.
This year’s week-long online auction starts on Monday, August 16. Proceeds will benefit education and conservation programs at both Wellfleet Bay and Long Pasture wildlife sanctuaries.
There will be nearly 50 items available for bidding, including:
- A week at a cottage at the Bolivar Flats Shorebird Sanctuary in Texas
- A diamondback terrapin hatchling tour with Bob Prescott
- Pollinator garden consultation with Long Pasture Discovery Center landscape architect Bernice Wahler and Sanctuary Director Ian Ives, plus $500 of plants from Mahoney’s
- A painting by Milisa Valliere, an artist who sees colors when she hears music
- Sunset cruise on Pleasant Bay to see seals and birds with Captain Kenny Eldredge
- Metal horseshoe crab from the Frying Pan Gallery in Wellfleet
