Friday – Sunday, June 13 – 15 – Blooming Art at the Old Mill

A Celebration of Art & Flowers!   The Martha’s Vineyard Garden Club’s iconic ‘Blooming Art’ event will take place this year at The Old Mill in West Tisbury (690 Edgartown-West Tisbury Road) on  June 13, 14, and 15.  All art on display will be for sale.  All funds raised during this event will benefit the Club’s Charitable initiatives.  The MVGC looks forward to your attendance and your support!

The Club’s ‘Blooming Art’ event showcases creations of island artists paired with interpretive floral arrangements by our MV Garden Club members under the roof of the charming and historic Old Mill located in West Tisbury…which is owned and maintained by the MV Garden Club. Our Club, which is the Island’s oldest conservation organization, takes great pride in hosting this event for the enjoyment of our Island Community and visitors who attend.

A Little Background:  ‘Blooming Art’ is modeled after the Boston Museum of Fine Arts  ‘Art in Bloom’ show, which is an annual celebration of floral arrangements inspired by the Museum’s many masterpieces.  Beginning in the early days of the MVGC Blooming Art event, The Old Mill was transformed into a gallery filled with the art of Vineyard artists displayed along with interpretive floral arrangements created by Garden Club members.  All artwork is for sale and the proceeds from the ‘Blooming Art’ event, will go towards supporting the Club’s charitable initiatives, including the Garden Club’s Scholarship Fund and the Old Mill Preservation Fund.

Tuesdays, June 3 – June 24, 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm Eastern – About Fostering Land Trust Engagement in Urban Communities, Online

This 4-part Zoom series, co-sponsored by MLTC and The Trustees, is intended for staff and board members from land trusts interested in initiating or expanding work in urban/developed parts of their service areas. Covers five topic areas, lots of participant interaction, and includes an associated field trip in July. Cost: $20 MLTC members, $35 non-members. One registration covers all participants within your organization for all four weeks.

Each week, speakers from Massachusetts land trusts will share examples of their work in five different topic areas, delving into issues such as their motivations for the project, the relationships they needed to build, considerations for working on land that is owned by partners, and benefits and challenges they’ve experienced. They will also describe lessons learned, recommendations for successful partnerships, and funding sources that may be particular to urban work. They hope to demonstrate that with the right motivation and preparation, any sized land trust can embark on similar work. Each week will offer plenty of time for questions from attendees.
