Saturday, April 24, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm – Transplanting Shrubs and Planting Small Ornamental Trees

Come to the Berkshire Botanical Gardens on Saturday, April 24, from 10 – 1, for a hands-on workshop.  Please bring work gloves and dress for the weather.  BBG members will pay $20, non-members $25.  You’ll learn by doing.  All aspects of successful planting will be demonstrated and participants will assist in transplanting a multi-stem shrub and planting a small tree.  Learn how to transplant shrubs successfully, including timing, placement, and techniques designed to create minimal disturbance and insure smooth transition to a new site.  Consider the differences between bare root, container grown, or balled and burlapped trees and understand the importance of siting.  The session will be led by Ken Gooch, who is the Department of Environmental Management’s Forest Health Specialist for Berkshire County.  Additionally, he is a Massachusetts Certified Arborist and teaches arborculture at the Botanical Garden.  Log on to www.berkshirebotanical.org to register.
