  • Sunday, November 1, 7:00 – 9:00 pm – Boston Night to Combat Climate Change

    Boston’s premier 2009 fundraising event showcasing New England’s leaders in the fight against global climate change will take place Sunday, November 1, from 7 – 9 pm. All proceeds from the event will go to organizations working to combat global climate change, including Oxfam America and National Resources Defense Council.

    Hosted by Worthy Causes, Inc. at the Cambridge Royal Sonesta, the Boston Night to Combat Climate Change event will feature big name speakers, networking opportunities, a silent auction, dancing, entertainment, and fine food and drink.

    The carbon footprint of the event will be measured and offset, and those in attendance will receive an event package containing earth-friendly products and information on ways to reduce their carbon footprint.

    The event will focus on raising awareness among the estimated 250-500 guests, while also celebrating the efforts of innovators working to protect the environment and combat climate change and its impact on poor people.

  • Saturday, October 24 – Boston CROP Hunger Walk

    The Union United Methodist Church is hosting the first ever CROP Walk (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) on October 24. It’s a six-mile walk through the South End, Roxbury and Jamaica Plain to raise funds for local hunger relief and anti-poverty programs, including The Food Project!   • Friday, October 30, 6:30 – 9:00 pm – Spirit of Stonehurst

    Visit the hallowed halls of Stonehurst, an icon of American architecture, on Friday, October 30, from 6:30 – 9:00 pm.  Enjoy food, brew, and a bit of magic, too!

    Designed by Henry Hobson Richardson and Frederick Law Olmsted, Stonehurst, the Robert Treat Paine Estate, is the only museum devoted to these two pioneering figures in American architectural and landscape design history. At Stonehurst, these close friends and collaborators forged a uniquely American architecture by focusing on the intimate, almost seamless integration of the natural and man-made worlds. Richardson and Olmsted, like Winslow Homer, Emily Dickinson and Mark Twain, were among the great artists of the post-Civil War era who asserted cultural independence from Europe by cultivating an aesthetic deeply rooted in the American landscape.

    The 109 acre Stonehurst estate is located nearby at 100 Robert Treat Paine Drive in Waltham, Massachusetts.  Tickets are $150 each, and sponsorship opportunities at higher levels are available.     We’ll be gathering to eat delicious food prepared by some of New England’s most talented chefs on Sunday, October 18, beginning at 6 pm at the Regattabar, The Charles Hotel, 1 Bennett Street in Cambridge! We hope you can join us to celebrate the farmers and chefs participating in the New England Grow-Out, a project led by Chefs Collaborative promoting partnerships between farmers and chefs and highlighting the rich agricultural history of New England.   • October Daffodil Planting on the Charles

    This autumn, the Charles River Conservancy will be planting bulbs along the banks of the Charles in Boston, Cambridge, and Watertown.  For the next month, every dollar you give will purchase one bulb that will help to brighten our Parklands next spring.

    If you’re unable to donate funds for the bulbs, help plant them!  Volunteer events will take place throughout October and November until the ground freezes.

  • Tuesday, October 6, 9:00 am – Esplanade Association Shopping Day at Lord & Taylor’s

    The Esplanade Association (www.esplanadeassociation.org) was invited to participate in a charity event that Lord & Taylor is holding on October 6th starting at 9 am at Boston and Greater Boston stores.  They are offering a number of groups a special shopping day at Lord & Taylor as a way to benefit each group’s cause. Lord & Taylor has given TEA 200 tickets to sell for their special shopping day for $5 each. That money goes directly to TEA. The tickets offer not only entry into the shopping day but also special coupon discounts of 20% and  15%  for sale and regular priced items, including 15% off cosmetics & fragrances (which is never offered) and 20% off one pair of Ugg boots if you want to purchase one. (Ugg boots are apparently very much in demand and don’t go on sale).  There will be special store give-aways, store raffles of $500 gift cards and prizes, music, AND this is an opportunity for people to help TEA.  If TEA supporters visit Lord & Taylor on October 6th and turn in their tickets, we will be eligible to win thousands of dollars in additional money.

  • Friday, October 9 – Sunday, October 11 – Warner Fall Foliage Festival

    The 62nd Annual Warner Fall Foliage Festival opens at 6 pm on Friday, October 9, continuing through 6 pm Sunday, October 11.  The Festival is Warner’s invitation to share the natural splendor of New Hampshire’s vibrant autumn colors while enjoying food, entertainment, arts and crafts along the main streets of Warner, located 18 miles northwest of Concord, exit 9 off Route 89.  The Festival is organized and operated by hundreds of local volunteers.  All money raised is spent on community projects.

    The Program includes open class corn competitions, The Moose Exhibit “Forever Locked – The Battling Bull Moose of Fowlertown,” arts and crafts farmer’s market, pie eating contests, music, parades, and the Granite State Cloggers.  For directions and more information, log on to www.wfff.org.
