  • Wednesdays, March 12 & 16, 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm – Marine Debris Art Workshops

    Join artist Sarah Thornington to make your own marine-debris creations at the Center for Coastal Studies, Larking Hall, 5 Holway Avenue in Provincetown.

    Learn a little about sea jellies and/or North Atlantic right whales, climate change and ways you can help protect this beautiful planet of ours while creating your own piece of marine-debris art.

    These FREE programs are thanks to generous support from the Provincetown Cultural Council, Mass Cultural Council and the Center for Coastal Studies. No experience necessary and all supplies will be provided – though feel free to bring your own beach finds if you’d like.

  • Thursday, April 24 – Sunday, April 27 – Nantucket Daffodil Festival 2025

    The 2025 Daffodil Festival on Nantucket, April 24 – 27, includes art shows, a pet show, tours, exhibitions, contests, lectures, and, of course, the Garden Club’s annual Nantucket Daffodil Flower Show. There are activities for all ages, and faithful festival-goers dress up for the occasion and participate enthusiastically. In addition to the Antique Car Parade, window decorating contest, and the famous ‘Sconset Tailgate Picnic, the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce organizes a Daffy Hat Contest, a Children’s Parade featuring decorated bikes, strollers, wagons, and other self-propelled vehicles, and a family picnic at Children’s Beach.   • Saturdays, January 25, February 22, March 22, & April 26, 10:00 am – 11:00 am – Guided Winter Walks at the Polly Hill Arboretum on Martha’s Vineyard

    Winter is a great time to observe the framework of the Arboretum; the trees without leaves and bare stonewalls are the basis for lush summer growth, but are readily visible this time of year. Polly Hill Arboretum staff will guide you through the Arboretum for a fresh perspective. The walks take place on Saturdays, January 25, February 22, March 22, and April 26 starting at 10 am. Meet at the Visitor Center. Registration not required. Included with $5 admission, free for members. 

    If the walk is cancelled, notices will be posted on the Polly Hill website by 3:30pm the prior day. 

  • Friday, December 6 – Sunday, December 8 – 50th Annual Nantucket Christmas Stroll

    Now in its 50th year, the island’s world-renowned signature event lovingly dubbed “Stroll” takes place the weekend of December 6th to December 8th, featuring the eagerly anticipated arrival of Santa via his nautical “sleigh” at noon on Saturday. A host of holiday activities, including roaming carolers in Victorian garb, the Magical Talking Tree, craft shows, a European-style Christmas Marketplace and more guarantee fun for the entire family.Join us as we transform the island into a Winter Wonderland and create delightful memories at this year’s Christmas Stroll, December 6th through 8th, 2024.

    Please note that two rows in the downtown Stop & Shop parking lot will be closed from the afternoon of December 6th to the evening of December 8th.  The Stroll Marketplace will be open Saturday, December 7th, 10am-3pm.

  • Sunday, December 8, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Yarmouth Port Christmas Stroll 2024

    Come and celebrate the holiday season with us and the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth on Sunday, December 8th from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM by joining our Christmas Stroll and walking along Route 6A in Yarmouth Port. Enjoy trolley rides, live music, entertainment, and delicious holiday treats!

    After there will be a tree lighting ceremony and caroling on the Village Green. Free. Rain or shine. This event is sponsored in part by the Town of Yarmouth’s Tourism Revenue Preservation Fund.

  • Saturday, October 12, 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm – Creating the Brooklyn Bridge Park

    On October 12 at 3 pm, enjoy a talk at The Polly Hill Arboretum Far Barn, 795 State Road in West Tisbury. Brooklyn Bridge Park, 1.3 miles long and more than 20 years in the making, has transformed an abandoned waterfront into a public landscape visited by 5 million people a year. Combining the perspectives of designer and horticulturalist, Michael Van Valkenburgh and Rashid Poulson will discuss the planning, realization, and stewardship of the landscape with a special focus on planting design and ecology, emphasizing the continued collaboration between the firm and park operations team. The conversation marks the arrival Brooklyn Bridge Park, a visual biography of the landscape by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates released by the Monacelli Press in early 2024. $20 ($10 for PHA members).     Join Polly Hill Arboretum Research Associates Gregory Palermo and Margaret Curtin as they guide participants through the Arboretum’s meadows on Friday, September 20 at 10 am.   • Wednesday, August 28, 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm – Creative Seasonal Succulent Displays for Temperate Gardens

    Even in the temperate Northern climate it is possible to consider succulents as attractive outdoor additions to the home or formal garden. In this lecture, Harnek Singh will speak in the Far Barn at the Polly Hill Arboretum, 809 State Road in West Tisbury, on August 28 at 5:30 about his many years of creative design as a Horticulturist at Wave Hill in Riverdale, NY where he is the head of the Cactus/Succulent Greenhouse. He will share the details of what he looks for in plants before choosing them for seasonal succulent displays, including how leaf texture, color, maintenance needs, and propagation ease are carefully considered in these succulents and their companion plants. $10 for Polly Hill members, $20 for the general public.   • Wednesday, August 14, 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm – Plant Exploration: The Passion and the Insanity

    Bringing plants into cultivation can serve many purposes, including the benefits of increasing urban landscape biodiversity as well as preserving the genetics of species of conservation concern in safe sites.  Plant exploration has many ethical, legal, natural, and physical challenges to navigate, but ultimately is a satisfying endeavor that seems to be taken on only by a small collaborative group of the most passionate plant nerds. Join Adam Black, Director of Horticulture and Plant Conservation at Bartlett Research Labs and Arboretum, as he chronicles the various exhilarating adventures, unexpected complications, and comical situations he has encountered in both far-flung regions of the world as well as the surprisingly under-explored regions of the US.  The program will take place at the Polly Hill Arboretum Far Barn, 809 State Road in West Tisbury, on August 14 at 5:30 pm. $5 for Polly Hill members, $10 for nonmembers.
