  • Now through Sunday, May 3 – Full Circle

Fifty-one years after “Monumenta” transformed Newport with one of the world’s first large-scale outdoor sculpture exhibitions, “Full Circle” revisits that groundbreaking moment through the work of Richard Fleischner, one of the last living participating artists, and his contemporaries.

Centered on Fleischner’s enduring site-specific “Sod Maze” at Chateau-sur-Mer, the exhibition presents original sketches, notes and archival materials that illuminate his early career alongside influential figures such as Christo, David Smith, Claes Oldenburg, Alexander Liberman and Barnett Newman.

Complemented by encaustics and works related to Fleischner’s ongoing Rowdy Meadow earthwork – home to contemporary masters like Richard Serra, Anish Kapoor, and Andy Goldsworthy – the exhibit traces a compelling arc from the pioneering vision of “Monumenta” to the continuing relevance of modern art and contemporary sculpture today.

The exhibit is at Rosecliff, 548 Bellevue Avenue in Newport, and the exhibition is included with admission to Rosecliff. For more. information visit https://www.newportmansions.org/events/full-circle/

  • Sunday, March 8, 4:00 pm – Bycatch by Liquid Spine

Join Wright-Locke Farm on March 8 at 4 pm in the All Seasons Barn for a one-of-a-kind dance concert performed by Liquid Spine, a global dance series that unearths the environmental needs of our water systems through movement, community, and conversation.

Their latest project, BYCATCH, brings to life the stories of marine animals impacted by entanglement, whether through ghost gear, pollution, or destructive over-fishing practices such as bottom trawling. This contemporary dance performance uses marine debris collected from the coastlines of Massachusetts. Ropes, nets, and weighted gear are transformed into dynamic, expressive elements that move with a cast of six, professional dancers. Through movement, sound, and repurposed materials, BYCATCH invites audiences to witness the fragility and resilience of marine life. The performance culminates in an opportunity for audiences to connect directly with the artists, ask questions, and deepen their understanding of the embodied, environmental narrative.

Admission is free but registration is strongly recommended at https://wlfarm.org/liquid-spine/

  • Sunday, March 15 – Sunday, June 28 – Framing Nature: Gardens and Imagination

A plot of land, a relaxing retreat, a formal landscape, a place of constant labor: gardens can carry a range of associations, especially in the world of art. • Now Through March 20, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm – The Bulb Show

The Berkshire Botanical Garden’s Annual Bulb Show returns to the Fitzpatrick Greenhouse now through March 20, from 9 – 4. Creating this burst of color begins quietly in late summer, when our horticulture staff selects and orders the season’s bulbs. Planting begins in the fall in the Lexan Greenhouse — tulips first, then daffodils and finally the smaller bulbs that round out the collection.

From there, the bulbs spend weeks in cool rooms beneath the Center House, where temperatures remain close to 42°F to simulate winter. Tulips need about 15 weeks of chilling, daffodils 12, and grape hyacinths 10. Staggered planting ensures a steady succession of blooms throughout the month-long show.

As their chilling period ends, the bulbs move back to the Lexan Greenhouse to “wake up.” Over several weeks they send up shoots, leaf out and eventually burst into color. Before they’re displayed in the Fitzpatrick Conservatory, each pot is topped with moss, pine needles or nut shells, and the display team adds finishing touches, including succulents, branches, even small stumps, to create depth and contrast.

When the show opens, the conservatory becomes a bright, fragrant haven. Its intimate scale invites visitors to lean in close for a fully immersive, “face-in-flowers” moment. For more information visit https://www.berkshirebotanical.org/events/bulb-show-2026
