  • Saturday, April 21 – Sunday, April 22 – Sew In Love With Violets

    A spectacular show featuring America’s favorite houseplant, the African Violet (Saintpaulia sp.), will take place Saturday, April 21 (10 – 5) and Sunday, April 22 (9 – 4) at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive in Boylston. All are welcome to enter their own plants and floral designs for judging to win ribbons and prizes. Participate in workshops on African Violet care. Start your own collection at the sale, where commercially grown plants and supplies are sold, along with plants grown by members.   • Saturday, March 31, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, and Sunday, April 1, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm – Norwood Evening Garden Club’s Art in Bloom

    Norwood High School art students will once again join the Norwood Evening Garden Club to present Art in Bloom 2012. This is the eighth annual event where club members create floral displays to interpret the work done by students in Drawing and Painting III and 2D Digital Design III classes.

    The historic George H. Morse House at 1285 Washington Street in South Norwood will host this year’s Art in Bloom on Saturday, March 31 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 1, from 1:00-5:00 p.m. The public is invited. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

  • Saturday, April 7, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Books in Bloom

    Y’ise Gardeners of Marshfield and Ventress Memorial Library announce the 11th annual Books in Bloom event, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, at the library, Route 139, Marshfield.  Designers from Y’ise Gardeners and library staff will interpret their favorite books in flowers, and people can vote for a favorite. A classical musician will perform, and light refreshments will be served. There will also be a raffle and used book sale in the main library of gardening books for $1 each. Y’ise Gardeners will also sell spring floral centerpieces and hostess gifts for Easter.  This is a free event sponsored by Y’ise Gardeners and Ventress Memorial Library.

  • Thursday, March 22 – Sunday, March 25 – Attleboro Arts Museum 2012 Flower Show

    The Attleboro Arts Museum Flower Show is one of the organization’s largest and most anticipated annual fundraising events.  Whether you come simply to bask in the promise of spring, stimulate your own creativity, or support arts programming in southeastern Massachusetts, you will be sure to leave feeling pleasure, inspiration, and a sense of revival. Thursday through Saturday (March 22 – 24) 9:30 am – 4:30 pm, Sunday (March 25) 12:00 noon – 4:00 pm.  Admission each day is $3 for adults, children 9 and under free.  Breakfast and lunch are served daily by Morin’s Diner of Attleboro, in the lower level of the Museum.  The 2012 theme of Garden America: Freedom of Expression prompts Flower Show landscapers and florists to use beloved and iconic American artworks as inspiration for their garden creations.   • Saturday, March 3 – Sunday, March 4, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm – Camellia Show

    The Massachusetts Camellia Society, one of the oldest societies in the USA, will present its 183rd Annual Camellia Show at Tower Hill Botanic Garden on Saturday, March 3 and Sunday, March 4, from 9 – 5. See hundreds of gorgeous flowers at the peak of their display, both on the Camellia trees themselves as part of Tower Hill’s own collection in the Limonaia, and also in bowls of floating blossoms from private collections. This is a perfect way to spend a winter day, amidst the subtropical greenery of Tower Hill’s indoor spaces, with the backdrop of the dramatic Winter Garden!   • Wednesday, March 14 – Sunday, March 18 – Boston Flower & Garden Show

    The Boston Flower & Garden Show returns to the Seaport World Trade Center Wednesday, March 14 – Sunday, March 18.  Show times each day are 9:00 am – 9:00 pm, with the exception of Sunday, March 18, when the hours are 9:00 am – 6:00 pm.  This year’s theme is “First Impressions” and will feature 25 show gardens, 240 vendors selling plants and garden-related merchandise, free lectures and demonstrations, and a lively amateur competition area.  John Gidding, below, host of HGTV’s hugely popular “Curb Appeal: The Block” will lecture on Friday, March 16, at 11:30 am and again at 2:30 pm.  Learn more at www.TheBostonFlowerShow.com, or telephone 781-237-5533.

  • Friday, March 2 – Sunday, March 4 – Needham’s Art in Bloom 2012

    See student artwork with floral interpretations in two venues in Needham.  On Friday, March 2, from 2 – 4 pm, exhibits will be on display at Needham High School, in the Lobby of the Senior Center, and at Town Hall.  Saturday, from 9 – 5, go to the Needham Public Library, where forty arrangements will be shown.  Sunday, the hours at the Needham Public Library will be from 1 – 4. Needham’s Art in Bloom was modeled after the annual springtime exhibit Art in Bloom presented by the Museum of Fine Arts, in Boston.  Beth Shalom Garden Club’s goal was to organize a community event that would engage people of all ages, interests, and life experiences. Each piece of mixed media artwork created by talented Needham High School students will have an accompanying floral interpretation produced by members of the award winning Beth Shalom Garden Club.     Have you won a blue ribbon for your floral designs? Have you ever wanted to step onto the ‘big stage’ and show your talent?

    Division II – the ‘open’ division of Blooms! at the Boston Flower & Garden Show – still has some openings for floral designers. You need not be a member of a garden club, but you should have both experience in designing and have won in competitions.  The payoff for competing is the recognition of your skills and imagination, and the admiration of the 65,000+ attendees at the show.  If you are interested, please contact Julie Pipe at juliepipe@comcast.net.

     

  • Sunday, March 4 – Sunday, March 11 – The Philadelphia International Flower Show – Hawaii: Islands of Aloha

    Join the Philadelphia Horticultural Society at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, 12th and Arch Streets in Philadelphia, for the 2012 Philadelphia International Flower Show.  This year, the theme is Hawaii: Islands of Aloha.  Complete information and ticket purchase capabilities may be found at www.theflowershow.com. The 2012 Philadelphia International Flower Show will introduce visitors to a tropical experience that blends next-stage digital technology with the natural beauty and rich culture of the Hawaiian Islands. Guests will have fun, learn, and be wowed by real-time floral competitions, the world’s largest lettuce wall, internationally renowned speakers, and a new layout of displays.

    Guests will enter the Show beneath dynamic projections of crashing waves and one of the most exciting displays of white orchids ever assembled. Towering palms, bamboo, green walls, and a plant canopy will immerse visitors in the Hawaiian rainforest.

    A 25-foot-high waterfall will splash down into Pele’s Garden, an island of exotic flowers and plants where performers will conjure volcanic flames and the Fire Goddess. The islands will be celebrated in showcase gardens that highlight their culture through flowers and landscapes, performances and art.

    Gardeners of all skill levels will find an ocean of ideas in the 150 free presentations held throughout the week, as well as dozens of educational displays that explore the latest gardening techniques and trends.

    Shoppers will find an array of take-home products to get the garden started and wonderful gifts in the Marketplace, Meadowbrook Farm Store and Flower Show Shoppe. A Hawaiian Village will offer authentic crafts and products from the islands.

  • Thursday, February 23 – Sunday, February 26 – The Rhode Island Spring Flower & Garden Show

    The Rhode Island Flower Show attracts more than 30,000 attendees annually, showcasing garden displays and 250 larger-than-life garden marketplace vendors. From Thursday, February 23 through Sunday, February 26, see demonstrations and lectures, with an emphasis on organic gardening and bring the kids for some family fun. Children under five receive free admission. For almost two decades the Flower Show has been the beacon for early Spring fun in Rhode Island.  Hours are 9 – 8 daily except for the final Sunday, when the Rhode Island Convention Center will close at 6 pm.  Tickets are $16 in advance, $18 at the door, and may be purchased through the website, www.flowershow.com.  Sponsored by the Rhode Island Horticultural Society.
