    Join folk herbalist Amber Kennedy on August 21 at 11 in the morning on a leisurely plant identification hike around the property of Tower Hill Botanic Garden. We’ll begin with an orientation and introduction to plant identification and foraging, followed by a guided walk. We’ll discuss a plethora of native and introduced wild plants, their folklore and beneficial historical uses and folk remedies as well as some of their benefits and uses to modern day herbalists. Learn each plant’s Latin and folk names, habitat and other identifying characteristics. Please dress for the weather and bring a notebook, pen and camera for documenting specimens. Hand-outs will be provided and field guides will be available for use. $35 for Tower Hill members, $45 for general public. Register at www.towerhillbg.org.

    Amber Kennedy is a folk herbalist residing in North Brookfield, MA. She has studied both Western Herbal Medicine and Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine (TCM) at Clearpath School of Herbal Medicine in western Massachusetts, along with numerous other herb and natural medicine courses. She is the owner of Boheme Botanika Herbals where she creates and sells herbal products, botanical skincare and therapeutic teas, teaches workshops and classes, offers a yearly Full Moon Herbal CSA and stewards an herbal teaching garden at Bell Brook Farm in West Brookfield.

    Join Folk Herbalist and bartender Amber Kennedy in this instructional herbalism Tower Hill Botanic Garden workshop ideal for the curious and the novice alike. The taste of bitter is an important aspect of digestive health. Regularly incorporating bitter greens, foods and herbs into meals can support healthy digestion and metabolism. In this hands on workshop you will learn how bitter herbs are vital for digestive health and overall well being and all about their more well known use in craft cocktails and mocktails. Discover the historical uses of bitters from the apothecary to the bar. Discuss the virtues and health benefits of the roots, barks, herbs and flowers we will be using in class and see and experience some of these plants and herbs close up. Learn of some ways to begin incorporating bitter herbs into your life and the various preparations they can be turned into. Sip on herbal teas and sample bitters formulas and an herbal mocktail during class. Make your own bottle of herbal bitters to bring home along with recipes and formulas for creating your own.
