    The American Bonsai Society will hold its 2019 National Convention  on April 11 – 14 at the Marriott Houston, 2900 Briarpark Drive, Houston, Texas. The theme this year is Bonsai on the Bayou, An American Bonsai Summit.  Registration includes a weekend packed full of bonsai fun and learning.   • Wednesdays, November 14 & 28, December 12, January 9 & 23, February 6 & 20, March 6 & 20, and April 3, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm – American Bonsai Society Intensive Course For Beginners

    Bonsai is the art of dwarfing trees and developing them into aesthetically appealing shapes by growing, pruning and training in containers according to prescribed techniques. This 10-week Berkshire Botanical Society intensive course follows the curriculum of the American Bonsai Society and will cover all aspects of bonsai. It is designed for beginners and for those in need of refreshing or expanding their bonsai skills. Topics covered include classic structuring and designing of bonsai, the basic styles, bonsai tools and uses, selecting bonsai stock, pruning, wiring and shaping techniques, styling, containers, potting and transplanting and care and maintenance. Students will practice training trees, repotting, pruning and shaping. Students will follow the ABS handbook curriculum.

    Pauline Muth, a Garden Club of the Back Bay speaker in 2012,  is President of the American Bonsai Society. She has won many awards, published many articles in journals and maintains an extensive collection of hardy and non-hardy bonsai. Her bonsai studio is in its 22nd year of operation in West Charlton, NY. BBG member price $275, non-member $300, plus an additional $50 charge for materials.   • Thursday, June 16 – Sunday, June 19 – Bonsai in the Bluegrass

    The American Bonsai Society invites you to the 2011 American Bonsai Society Symposium Bonsai in the Bluegrass, to be held at the Fern Valley Hotel and Conference Center in Louisville, Kentucky June 16 – 19.  They have scheduled International Bonsai artists from Europe, Asia, Mexico, and the United States. Ryan Neil, Jonathan Maples, and Doug Philips are among the fourteen workshop leaders. There will be a large number of bonsai vendors on hand to provide a variety of trees, pots, tools, and various other supplies. Also, part of the program includes a terrific bonsai display of well styled trees from across the United States.

    Registration for the Symposium is $295. The registration includes four classes/workshops, your lunch Friday and Saturday, dinner Friday night, banquet Saturday night, access to the demos, vendor area, as well as the bonsai and suiseki exhibit. There is a good rate at the resort for participants, and the hotel looks forward to your arrival.
