    It feels like the decision to postpone the Charles River Watershed Association Annual Meeting in March was both just yesterday and years ago. But it’s now the start of summer. Here is the press release:

    We hope you’ll join us Thursday, July 16 at 12:00 PM (EST) on Zoom for our virtual Annual Meeting from the comfort of your home. We are fortunate to have Energy & Environmental Affairs Secretary Katie Theoharides with us as we award her the Rita Barron Public Official Award for her work advancing climate resilience solutions at the municipal level with an emphasis on nature-based solutions.  As EEA Secretary, Theoharides oversees the Commonwealth’s six environmental, natural resource and energy regulatory agencies, which include the Departments of Environmental Protection, Public Utilities, Energy Resources, Conservation & Recreation, Agricultural Resources, and Fish & Game. Secretary Theoharides also serves as Chair of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, the Energy Facilities Siting Board, and the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center.

    We’ve learned a lot with our Virtual Event Series and we cannot wait to connect with you in this new way. The Annual Meeting will be held virtually under the state’s emergency COVID-19 provisions (chapter 53, section 16 of the Acts of 2020), which allow for virtual member meetings during the pandemic and for 60 days thereafter.

    The 48th Annual Meeting of the Friends of the Public Garden will take place Wednesday, April 11 at 5:30 pm in the Alcott Room of the Omni Parker House Hotel, 60 School Street in Boston There will be a presentation entitled Stewardship and Vision: Taking Action for Future Generations by Boston City Councilor Michelle Wu, the first Asian-American woman to serve on the Council and first woman of color to serve as Council President, Today, she serves as the Chair of the Committee on Planning, Development, and Transportation, as well as the Chair of the Committee on Census and Redistricting.     The 177th Annual Meeting of the Worcester County Horticultural Society and Tower Hill Botanic Garden will be held at Tower Hill on Thursday, March 15, 4-6pm. Admission is free; pre-registration required. Members are welcome to bring guests. However, only Tower Hill members may vote at the Business Meeting.

    Business Meeting – 4pm – The 177th Annual Meeting of the Worcester County Horticultural Society will include a presentation of the Society’s business over the past year, a vote on candidates for the Board of Trustees, as well as any resolutions proposed. Amendments to the Bylaws will be presented for consideration and vote. Proposed changes may be viewed on the Annual Meeting page of our website  or be requested by calling the telephone number above. The Business Meeting will be followed by a presentation by Rodney Eason.

    RODNEY EASON – Rodney is the CEO of the Land & Garden Preserve which stretches from Northeast Harbor to Seal Harbor on Mount Desert Island, Maine. Prior to joining the Preserve in 2015, Rodney was director of horticulture at Coastal Maine Botanical Garden and display division leader at Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania. Besides gardening and just an overall love of plants, his hobbies include bicycling, reading, and finding different ways to stay warm in the winter (he is a native Southerner). He and his wife, Carrie, feel extremely fortunate to be able to raise their two teens and two “tweens” in and around Acadia National Park.
