    Dan and C.L. Fornari are pleased to open their flower-filled landscape on Lawrence Pond on July 17 and July 19 from 10 – 4 as part of the Cape Cod Hydrangea Fest. The address is 2 Lawrence Pond Lane in Sandwich. Find ideas for dry gardens in the bed along the road. See the organic vegetable garden that provides most of their produce from June through December. Discover “Annual Alley” where different combinations of colorful annuals are planted every year. C.L.’s test garden contains new varieties of shrubs and perennials, and the front-door garden is filled with a mix of perennials, annuals and shrubs. Visit the rain garden, a magical stumpery, many Hydrangeas and the Cocktail Hour Garden that inspired one of C.L.’s books. $5 entrance fee benefits the Barnstable Education Foundation,

  • Friday, July 10 & Sunday, July 12, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm- A Little Bit of Everything Yarmouthport Garden Tour

    A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING: 8 Village Lane, Yarmouthport Tour, benefiting Barnstable Education Foundation. See why this garden was recently featured in Country Garden Magazine. You will discover an outdoor fairy garden, new gnome and pocket gardens, and the Bodacious Cutting Garden, filled with dahlias, perennials and annuals. This garden features hydrangeas and a greenhouse where it all begins…you’ll get to peek into where the treasures sleep in the winter. Take photos of water features and you-can-do-this-too garden rooms, plus many handmade birdhouses. Open for tours: July 10 and 12.

    Parking: Short, dead end street. Parking limited in cul-de-sac. Park around playground on 6A, a very short walk to the garden. Directions: Go to Great Western/N. Main St and turn right. Take the first left onto Whites Path and drive to the light at Station Ave. Make a right onto Station Ave and go up to Route 6A. Just before 6A you will see Village Lane on the left. Because the street is so short, please park by the playground on 6A. $5 entrance, Cash Only Day-Of at the Garden.

    Cape Cod Hydrangea Garden, South Dennis
    Come and visit a lovely Cape Cod Hydrangea garden created by a granddaughter of a farmer. You’ll see that the gardener loves growing beautiful flowers, plants, bushes, vegetables, and trees. Gardens surround the house and embrace the lay of the land incorporating terraced stonewalls to take advantage of the sunshine, and creating a structured backdrop for the plantings. You’ll find lots of annual and perennial flowers, and discover new varieties you might want to grow yourself. View this garden from many levels and terraced

    Pamela’s Garden, South Yarmouth
    When you visit Pamela Phipp’s gardens you’ll see a plant-lover’s paradise. This landscape has evolved over time, but it started with a scraggly lawn. Pamela’s first decision was to have no lawn at all, so If you’re also interested in a turf-free yard, come experience the diversity and beauty you can create. Trees and shrubs that Pamela has happily “taken in” have become a foundation for borders and paths. Hydrangeas and perennials play an important role, and there’s a great deal of beauty packed into a third of a acre. This is a real person’s garden that will inspire and delight visitors. Accessibility: Discretionary – Mostly flat but a few steps and narrow paths.

    Marlene’s Garden, Osterville
    A cypress glade emptying to “Sam’s” kettle pond beyond provides the backdrop for a mixed deciduous shrub and perennial garden. See the creative use of bird feeders and houses with an arbor and water feature visible from seating areas. Two raised beds feature dahlias, and an herb and perennial garden border the deck which hosts containers of annuals and patio tomatoes. Walk along the garage to see the vegetable garden and zinnia bed, and note that the garage is divided in half: her garden shed and his tool/fix it shop. Day lilies, hydrangeas will be in flower and you’ll see several specimen trees as you stroll around this third-of-an-acre village property. Accessibility: Discretionary – Parts are flat but also uneven land, soft ground, sets of stairs.

  • Friday, July 8 – Sunday, July 17, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Cape Cod Hydrangea Festival

    The Cape Cod Hydrangea Festival is an annual celebration of the region’s blue, pink, and white signature flowers. The Second Annual Cape Cod Hydrangea Festival is happening this July 8 – 17, and the festival’s schedule is nearly overflowing with fun activities for the entire family. This ten day festival’s main attractions are the daily tours of private gardens, each designed and maintained by the individual homeowners and carrying a unique charm. Enjoy the exploration of gardens with intriguing titles such as, “For the Love of Trees,” “A Peaceful Sanctuary for All Seasons,” and “Where Nature and Nurture Meet.” You are sure to enjoy such eclectic spaces, not to mention the good feeling of supporting a variety of local nonprofits.

    Gardens are only one part of the festival. Enjoy workshops and lectures presented by leading international horticulturalists, discover promotions at participating nurseries and home centers, take a class to learn proper hydrangea pruning techniques, or even watch a painting demonstration by renowned Cape Cod artists both in-studio and in the gardens themselves.

    Garden tours are $5 per person per garden. Each garden is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and only on the days specified. All garden tours are rain or shine and nonrefundable.
