  • Saturday, January 25, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Nature Journaling with Nanci Worthington

    Join New Marlborough artist and NEGSI member, Nanci Worthington on January 25 from 1 – 3 as she guides you through nature journaling sessions at Bartholomew’s Cobble. Bartholomew’s Cobble is located at 105 Weatogue Road in Ashley Falls, Sheffield, Massachusetts. Nanci will teach you how to observe nature and your surroundings and capture what you see, hear and feel on paper.

    This group is for everyone– self proclaimed naturalists, bird watchers, kids, adults, teens, advanced artists and beginners- no experience necessary. Just a love of the outdoors!

    Space is limited and registration is required. The group will meet outside the visitor’s center at Bartholomew’s Cobble the last Saturday of each month and run for approximately 2 hours. Materials will not be provided for you. A confirmation email will be sent when you sign up with a materials list.

    Mushrooms are a fascinating part of the diverse habitats found in Berkshire County. Come to Bartholomew’s Cobble in Sheffield, Massachusetts on Saturday, August 27 from 10 – 12 and learn about the different varieties of mushrooms in our community and how to identify them.     Bartholomew’s Cobble is known for its extraordinary diversity of fern species. During this Trustees of Reservations hike and drawing workshop with our friend, renowned ecologist and botanical artist Elizabeth Farnsworth, learn identification strategies for ferns,and how to apply these identification skills to create beautiful, accurately-detailed botanical drawings of ferns.   • Saturday, April 25, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon – Our Amazing Spring Wildflowers Guided Walk

    Sheffield is a global hotspot for rare species and Bartholomew’s Cobble puts on one of the best shows of spring ephemerals from mid-April to mid-May. Come greet the rich variety of wildflowers on Saturday, April 25 from 10 – noon, and leave with an understanding of how to help identify and protect these gems of our native flora not just in conservation lands, but in your own yard and the open spaces of your community.

    A Trustees of Reservations naturalist will reveal what makes this particular environment so well-suited to rare and diverse plants and explain what the Cobble is doing to protect the natural resilience of this landscape.   • Saturday, September 21, 8:00 am – Sunday, September 22, 5:00 pm – What’s Out There Weekend in the Berkshires

    The Cultural Landscape Foundation’s What’s Out There Weekend, scheduled for September 21 and 22, features free, expert-led tours at more than two-dozen significant examples of cultural landscapes in the Berkshires region, including important historical sites along the African American Heritage Trail, historic farmsteads and town commons, and iconic landscape design at places like Naumkeag and the Mount. The weekend also highlights the Berkshires’ golf history, with tee times at significant courses all over the region. The tours offer people opportunities to learn about landscape architecture and the design and cultural history of places they may pass every day but don’t necessarily know about. This event is coming to the Berkshires through a collaborative effort with Berkshire Synergy Project (BSP).
