  • Saturday, November 20, 10 am – 3 pm – Wrapping Stones Japanese Style

    Participate in a hands on workshop at the Berkshire Botanical Garden in West Stockbridge, Massachusetts on Saturday, November 20 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. It is mysterious, but basket makers and gardeners alike love and collect beautiful stones! We keep them in our studios, gardens and touch them often. Now you can learn to “wrap stones” and further that connection between stones and people. Using raffia, waxed line and cane, each participant will weave an open pattern over each stone. Start collecting! Put them on your windowsills, line your garden paths or give them as gifts. Nancy Moore Bess is a master basket maker and exhibits her baskets worldwide. She has championed Japanese basketry in the west and is the author of Bamboo in Japan. Her popular workshops always sell out. Bring a bagged lunch.   • Monday, March 8, 7 pm – The River Cottage Cookbook Class

    British chef, writer, activist and teacher Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is widely known and respected for his dedication to creating beautiful dishes comprised of seasonal, ethically produced food and raising a general awareness of where our food comes from.   • Saturday, January 16, 11:00 am – Snowshoeing Guided Walk

    On Saturday, January 16, beginning at 11 am, enjoy the signs of winter wildlife at the Mass Audubon Boston Nature Center, 500 Walk Hill Street, Mattapan, with a Teacher Naturalist as your guide.  Snowshoeing is an easy and fun way to get around.  You’ll discover animal tracks and signs, beautiful winter scenes, and hidden winter treasures.  Preregistration is not required, and snowshoe rental is included in the price ($8 for Mass Audubon members, $12 for non members),  For more information, call 617-983-8500, or email bnc@massaudubon.org.

    We’ve been having some problems with our on-line wreath store – checking out is hard to do.  Since this is the final week before we begin making our beautiful holiday wreaths, we have scrambled for a solution, and have one.  You may still click on to On-Line Wreath Store on the menu above and print the order form.  Then simply fill it out and fax it to Francine Crawford at 617-249-1762.  Payment can be made directly through PayPal, www.paypal.com, if you wish.  Log in (or create an account if you don’t already have one – it’s safe and secure) and click Send Money, then fill in elisabethlay@comcast.net as the Payee.  (Your receipt will show the payment goes to The Garden Club of the Back Bay).  Put in the amount due, designate it is for Goods, and you’re all set.  Or, you may mail a check made out to The Garden Club of the Back Bay, Inc. to Francine Crawford, 421 Beacon St., Boston, MA 02115.  You may also email your order information (for instance, one fully decorated standard indoor wreath with red bow & gold accents) to info@bostonflora.com, and we’ll quickly confirm your order and get back to you with delivery or pick up information.  You may mail a check, pay with PayPal, or bring your payment with you if you are picking up your wreath at The First Lutheran Church of Boston, 299 Berkeley Street, Boston.  Thank you for your understanding and patience!

  • Sunday, October 25, 10 – 4 – Come See Our Bloomers!

  • Woods of the World

    The Woods of the World permanent exhibit consists of 178 unique woods from all parts of the globe and hangs from the walls and ceiling near the north entrance of Lyman Plant House, 15 College Lane, Northampton, Massachusetts.

    The wood samples on display have a clear protective finish but are not stained. Aging will change the colors over time.

    Deforestation, poaching and global warming are placing many tree species at risk. It is only through sustainable harvesting, reforestation and habitat preservation that many useful and beautiful woods will be available for future generations.  The hours are 8:30 – 4:00 daily, closed Thanksgiving Day and December 23 – January 2.
