  • Friday, June 25 – Sunday, June 27 – Safari Flora & Fauna

    The 2010 Newport Flower Show will take place at Rosecliff from Friday, June 25 through Sunday, June 27.  Tickets may be purchased at www.newportmansions.org.  The Opening Night Cocktail Party will take place from 6 – 9 pm on Friday, although the show itself opens at 10:30 am that morning, closing at 5 pm to ready itself for the benefit gala.  Hours on Saturday and Sunday are 9 am – 5 pm.  Bartlett Tree Experts are the Presenting Sponsor.  All proceeds from the Newport Flower Show are dedicated to the ongoing restoration and maintenance of The Preservation Society of Newport County’s 88 acres of gardens and landscapes.

  • Saturday, May 1, 6:00 – 10:00 pm – “For the Birds” Auction

    Enjoy a unique evening of art, gourmet food and fun on Saturday, May 1, from 6 – 10 pm at Alcott’s Restaurant & Tea Room, 102 Prospect Hill Road in Harvard, Massachusetts.  Proceeds benefit Fruitlands Museum.  Bid on an eclectic mix of auction items; enjoy delicious fare featuring luscious hors d’oeuvre, a signature cocktail and cash bar, and a delectable dinner.  Proceeds from the Auction for Art support Fruitlands Museum exhibitions like “For the Birds” featuring works from Mass Audubon Visual Arts Center’s rarely-exhibited collection, opening on April 11.  Tickets $50 members, $60 nonmembers.  Tables for 8 are $375 each.   For more information, log on to www.fruitlands.org.

  • Sunday, December 13, 1:00 – 4:00 pm – Milton Holiday House Tour

  • On Line Wreath Store Now Open

    Your holiday wreath order is just a few clicks away.  View pictures of a sampling of wreaths and bows from years past, print additional order forms, and actually order on line through PayPal, simply by clicking on the On Line Wreath Store link on the top of the page.  We still prefer the good old fashioned check (we do pay a small fee on each transaction to PayPal) but recognize that for many the convenience of ordering securely on line is a benefit.  Remember that if you live in the suburbs, you’ll have to pick up your order on December 9 or 10 at The First Lutheran Church of Boston, 299 Berkeley Street (on the corner of Marlborough and Berkeley) in the Back Bay.  If you have any questions about the wreaths or delivery and pick up, email info@bostonflora.com and we’ll get back to you.

  • Friday, October 2, 5 – 8 pm – The 2009 Great Glass Pumpkin Preview Party

    Visit the Kresge Oval on Friday evening to preview the complete installation of 1,000 handblown glass pumpkins, created by artists from the MIT Glass Lab. Pumpkin sales are Saturday, October 3 only, from 10 am to 3 pm, with a rain date on Sunday, October 4. Up-to-date rain date information will be posted on http://web.mit/glasslab/sales_pumpkin.html.

    Proceeds from this event benefit The MIT Glass Lab, where the MIT community can learn and practice the art of glassblowing.

    The Great Glass Pumpkin Patch came to MIT in 2001 after a residency in the Glass Lab by 14 members of the Bay Area Glass Institute (BAGI). The Bay Area Glass Institute (a non-profit corporation located in San Jose, CA), was founded in 1995 by San Jose State graduate Bobby Bowes and MIT alumnus Mike Binnard.

    Every week or so, beginning, intermediate, and advanced students work together for a few hours in teams of six or seven to produce pumpkins for the sale. Production for the October event continues steadily throughout the year in order to achieve their goal of 1000-1200 pumpkins.
