    The Young Advisors of the Boston Preservation Alliance present their 10th annual Libations for Preservation. This year it’s all about local artists! Come enjoy craft cocktails and snacks as you bid on beautiful artwork in a silent auction to benefit preservation advocacy in Boston. Our venue this year is the 1911 Roslindale Substation, 4228 Washington Street #102 in Boston, the recent restoration of which provides a beautiful gathering place for the surrounding community and earned a Preservation Achievement Award in 2020.

  • Wednesday, March 21, 6:00 pm – Annual Meeting of the Boston Preservation Alliance

    Join the Alliance at our Annual Meeting for Members on March 21 at 6 PM at the New Old South Church, 645 Boylston Street with special guest James Lindberg, Vice President of Research and Policy, Preservation Green Lab, part of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Preservation Green Lab is producing innovative and forward-thinking big data tools that are shaping the way we think about preservation and sustainability. To kick off the Boston Preservation Alliance’s 40th Anniversary year, James Lindberg will speak about the evolution of historic preservation, answer questions like “Why We Preserve?” and discuss the future of the field through its growing connections with the environmental and sustainability movements.   • Saturday, September 26, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm – Libations for Preservation

    The Young Advisors Board of the Boston Preservation Alliance invites you to its annual fundraiser, which puts a creative spin on celebrating the diversity and historic character of Boston’s neighborhoods. Six of Boston’s favorite neighborhood bars will face off to create the best modern reinvention of a historic cocktail. Inspired by the memorable events and buildings that shape their neighborhoods, bartenders will compete to be crowned Boston’s Historic Cocktail Champion. The money raised will directly support the Alliance’s educational outreach programs, which engage the public in learning about the cultural and economic value of the Boston’s historic resources and the need to protect them.

    This year, BPA is pleased once again to partner with GrandTen Distilling for this event. Come to the company’s own distillery at 383 Dorchester Avenue in South Boston, on Saturday, September 26th from 5:00-7:30 p.m. to vote on your favorites!   • Monday, July 13, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Three Sites, One Mission: North End Design Crawl

    Preservation, architecture and design – each of these disciplines play a crucial role in the development and maintenance of Boston’s historic fabric. Join The Boston Preservation Alliance on Monday, July 13 at 6 pm for its first-ever young professionals Design Crawl, during which you’ll go behind the scenes at Walsh Brothers Construction, the Paul Revere House and North Bennet Street School – three venues that engage in historic preservation daily, yet in radically different ways. You’ll also stop by the proposed historic Haymarket Hotel site to explore a real-world example of design challenges, followed by drinks at Ward 8. We can’t wait to see you there!

  • Monday, March 30, 6:00 pm – Boston Preservation Alliance Annual Meeting

    The Boston Preservation Alliance is proud to announce the guest speaker for its Annual Meeting, to be held Monday, March 30, beginning at 6 pm at District Hall, 75 Northern Avenue in Boston. Renowned photographer Peter Vanderwarker will share a collection of his amazing images of Boston’s unique places and spaces.

    After the presentation and a short business meeting, our members will be invited to a reception. This is the perfect occasion to network with others who are passionate about the city’s character, meet other Alliance members, the Board and staff, and discuss the upcoming year and the preservation challenges and opportunities.

    This event will be for members only, so now is the time to join or renew your membership with the Alliance and be a part of Boston’s leading advocacy nonprofit for historic preservation. Consider your membership as your ticket purchase to see amazing imagery from across Boston.

    The Boston Preservation Alliance has awarded www.BackBayHouses.org one of its 2014 Preservation Achievement Awards! Tom and Nancy High, who created this website, will receive their award at the ceremony on October 21.   • Saturday, July 27, 1:00 pm – Egleston Square Bilingual Walking Tour

    As part of its ongoing Neighborhood Preservation Priorities Workshop program, The Boston Preservation Alliance will host a bilingual walking tour of historic sites in the Egleston Square neighborhood on Saturday, July 27, beginning at 1 pm leaving from the Egleston Square Farmers Market.  The tour will be presented in both English and Spanish.  The tour will serve as a starting point for a community-wide discussion of historic preservation priorities.  Sites identified will be incorporated into a Neighborhood Preservation Priorities report which will guide the Alliance’s advocacy efforts in the area.  For more information contact Judy Neiswander at jneiswander@bostonpreservation.org, or call 617-367-2458.  Pictured below is the Egleston Square MBTA Station. Now known as the BNN Charles J. Beard II Media Center, the Egleston Square Substation was constructed in the Spanish Revival style as a power substation for the City of Boston in 1905.  This building received a 2007 Boston Preservation Alliance Award, a 2008 Boston Preservation Alliance Award for Notable Neighborhood Preservation Efforts, and the Massachusetts Historical Commission Preservation Award in 2008.

  • Thursday, July 29, 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm – Bikes@Night

    Join the Boston Preservation Alliance members as they team up with Urban AdvenTours to ride the night away and explore Boston on two wheels.  The Bikes@Night tour will show you the city as the sun goes down and the lights come up, focusing on Boston’s beautiful and historic waterfront. Watch the sun set over Boston Harbor, hear about architecture and history, and enjoy a delightful summer night in Boston.  The ride will include:
    • Long Wharf: once the busiest pier in the busiest port in America during early colonial times and now home to the New England Aquarium.
    • The Rose Kennedy Greenway: the 1.5-mile-long long series of parks and public spaces that now exists where the elevated Central Artery once stood.
    • Fan Pier: the historic location of railway lines that linked Boston to the rest of the country and where you can now take in the modern architecture of the Institute of Contemporary Art and the Moakley Court House.
    • The North End: the city’s oldest residential community full of late 19th and early 20th century architecture (and arguably the best restaurants!)

    Ride departs from Urban AdvenTours, 103 Atlantic Avenue and participants should arrive by 5:30 p.m. for a 6 p.m. departure.  Cost: This event is $30 for Alliance members/$37 for non-members and includes: bike, helmet, water bottle, and tour guide.     The National Trust for Historic Preservation invites the public to a free event – Boston Modern: The Spirit of Reinvention -  on Wednesday, June 30, beginning at 6:30 pm, celebrating the history and debating the future of the Boston area’s Modern and recent past architecture.  Join some of the preservation movement’s sharpest thinkers and most outspoken commentators for a provocative evening exploring the critical, and often controversial, issues facing the future of Greater Boston’s 20th century structures and landscapes.  Journalist and author Anthony Flint of the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy will moderate a panel featuring David Fixler, FAIA of EYP and DOCOMOMO-US/New England, Kathy Spiegelman, Chief Planner, Harvard’s Allston Initiative, and others.  After hearing the experts, add your voice to the conversation during the public forum.

    A Special Insiders Tour of The First Church at 6:30 pm will be limited to the first 45 registrants.  The reception and program will begin at 7 pm.  RSVP to my.PreservationNation.org/BostonModern.

  • Thursday, May 13, 6:00 pm – Boston Preservation Alliance Auction and Awards

    Join the Boston Preservation Alliance for Gala on the Greenway, the 2010 Auction and Living Icons Award night, at Goulston & Storrs, 400 Atlantic Avenue in Boston.  Silent and Live Auctions begin at 6:00.  The Boston Preservation Alliance honors Governor Michael S. Dukakis (below, middle) and Frederick P. Salvucci (below, right), former Secretary of Transportation for the Commonwealth.  The pair will be presented with the Alliance’s first “Living Icons” award for their vision in conceiving Boston’s Central Artery Project, and fortitude in making it a reality. Hors d’oeuvre and cocktails by La Morra, wines by Greenvale Vineyards in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.  Tickets $150, of which $115 is deductible.  For more information on the awards and auction items log on to www.bostonpreservation.org.
