  • Saturday, June 23, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Orleans Secret Garden Tour

    The Orleans Improvement Association will hold its 30th Anniversary Secret Garden Tour on Saturday, June 23. Garden Tour highlights include seven lovely gardens hosting plein air painters and representatives of the Master Gardener Association of Cape Cod. Major sponsors will be at the gardens with displays and coupons. Many sponsors and lunch spots will be offering discounts with Garden Tour Tickets. After tour receptions will be held from 4 – 6 pm at the Alice Mongeau Gallery, Helen Addison Art Gallery, Gallery 31 and Tree’s Place Gallery. Tickets are available on line at http://www.orleansimprovement.org/special-events/garden-tour/, and at Agway of Cape Cod (Orleans, Chatham & Dennis locations), The Farm in Orleans, Friends Market Place, and Snow’s Home & Garden Center. On Line Tickets can be picked up at the Nauset Regional Middle School on the day of the tour starting at 9:30. Day of Ticket Purchases can be made at the Nauset Regional Middle School starting at 9:30. The Nauset Regional Middle School is located at 70 Route 28, Orleans. No tickets will be sold at the Gardens. Ticket prices $30 – $35.

  • Saturday, July 15, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Three for Two: Historic Gardens, a Museum and Barn

    The Harwich Historical Society invites you to Three for Two: Historic Gardens, a Museum and Barn, on Saturday, July 15 from 10 – 4. Entry to the Brooks Academy Museum, Elmer Crowell Barn, and Harwich Historic Society gardens, plus a stroll through the private gardens at two antique Cape homes located just one block away, are offered for $10.     Visit a number of lovely private home gardens in Sandwich at your leisure anytime between 10am and 4pm.  Light refreshments will be served overlooking the Wildflower Garden at the Green Briar Nature Center, 6 Discovery Hill Road off Route 6A in East Sandwich. Tickets contain a map and directions to each garden and may be purchased in advance or on the day of the tour at Green Briar. All proceeds benefit the educational programs of the Burgess Society and its Green Briar Nature Center. Tickets are $15. Rain date is Friday, July 17.   • Thursday, July 16, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm – “Garden Happenings” Osterville Garden Tour

    On Thursday, July 16, 2015 “Garden Happenings” will take place in the seaside village of Osterville on Cape Cod. Five gardens will be the backdrop for special events including an “Art in Bloom”, Ideas for Entertaining, Fairy Garden Displays, Plantings in Unique Containers and on-going demonstrations.

  • Tuesday, July 14 – Thursday, July 16 – Hydrangeas 2015 International Conference

    HYDRANGEAS, HYDRANGEAS, HYDRANGEAS! The species, cultivars, newest introductions, breeding innovations, cultural issues, and tours of significant private Cape Cod gardens will be part of an International Conference to take place July 14 – 16 at Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich. Plus, there will be on-site displays by major hydrangea suppliers, and plant sales stalls by local nurseries featuring hundreds of hydrangeas- all presented and available over three days in the cradle of the genus – Cape Cod.

    Heritage is widely known for rhododendrons, but it also features a growing collection of hydrangeas. In concert with the Cape Cod Hydrangea Society, Heritage is the repository of the Society’s Hydrangea Collection and has continued to expand hydrangea plantings throughout the property.

    Lectures will be held each morning with garden tours in the afternoon. Tuesday and Wednesday tours will feature significant private gardens on the Cape. Keynote Speaker for the conference is Dr. Michael Dirr, who will give a talk on The History of Hydrangeas – Earliest Introductions to Current Developments on Tuesday morning. A host of prominent speakers will present on Tuesday and Wednesday – full details may be found on the website noted below. Thursday will be a full Heritage Day dedicated to tours of all garden areas including the Hydrangea Collection. Thursday evening will feature the Conference banquet followed by an Ice Cream Social and a Question & Answer Forum to conclude the event.

    Cape Cod is a historical treasure trove, a place of incomparable natural beauty, with a maritime climate befitting Hydrangea macrophylla – the crown jewel of the genus – at their blooming peak in July.

  • Wednesday, July 10, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Sandwich Garden Tour

    Visit a number of lovely private home gardens in Sandwich, Massachusetts at your leisure anytime between 10am and 4pm on Wednesday, July 10.  A new dimension is added to this year’s tour. Members of the Pen Women of Cape Cod will be painting and writing poems on site at each garden.  Light refreshments will be served overlooking the Wildflower Garden at Green Briar Nature Center, 6 Discovery Hill Road (off Route 6A) in East Sandwich.

    The Orleans Improvement Association’s 23rd Annual Garden Tour will take place Saturday, June 25, from 10 – 4, beginning at Main Street and School Road in Orleans. The tour will take place rain or shine. Light refreshments will be provided.   Proceeds from this event are used to enhance the beauty and character of Orleans. Delicious light refreshments await you at one of the gardens. All six gardens are so lovely and inviting.  Some of the special garden features this year include water views, a fish pond, herb gardens, amazing specimen trees, a woodland retreat and many displays of Cape-friendly plantings.     Visit lovely Sandwich homes at your leisure on Wednesday, July 14, from 11 – 3.  Light refreshments will be served at Green Briar Nature Center, 6 Discovery Hill Road in East Sandwich. This event is a benefit for The Thornton W. Burgess Society.

    The Thornton W. Burgess Society is a non-profit educational organization founded in 1976 to carry on the pioneering conservation work of author/naturalist Thornton W. Burgess (1874 – 1965). Mr. Burgess, who was born and grew up in Sandwich, Massachusetts, went on to achieve national and international recognition for his childrens stories that teach lessons of conservation and love of wildlife.

    Over 170 books and 15,000 stories by Burgess chronicle the tales of Peter Rabbit and his animal friends, including Jimmy Skunk, Grandfather Frog, Johnny Chuck, Sammy Jay, Reddy Fox, Hooty Owl and many others. Through these engaging stories, generations of young people have learned about the natural world and have developed an understanding of the importance of conservation of our natural resources.

    The Thornton W. Burgess Society operates three facilities. The Thornton W. Burgess Museum on the shores of Shawme Pond on Water Street (Rte 130) in Sandwich village and the Green Briar Nature Center, the Jam Kitchen at 6 Discovery Hill Road (off Rte. 6A) in East Sandwich and the East Sandwich Game Farm.

  • Thursday, July 8, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm – Falmouth Garden Stroll on the Bay

  • Saturday, June 26, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Orleans Improvement Association Garden Tour

    Six exquisite gardens hidden in private areas of Orleans, are showcased on this self-drive tour taking place Saturday, June 26, from 10 – 4.  Several gardens have spectacular water features. Tickets ($15 in advance, $20 day of tour) are available at Snow’s Home and Garden, Agway of Orleans, Main St. Gourmet and Nory’s, all in Orleans. Bob Bergeron of Snow’s Home and Garden will be in Garden #3 to answer your gardening questions, and delicious light refreshments await you at Garden #5.  You may enter to win a Door Prize of a $100 gift certificate to Snow’s Home & Garden, or a plant from “The Farm”, and winners will be notified Sunday, June 27th.
