  • Tuesday, January 28 – Thursday, January 30, 9:30 am – 3:30 pm – Drawing Succulents: Creating Plant Portraits in Graphite

    Through the observation of the unusual forms of various succulent species Carrie Megan will help you discover the sculptural structure of these unique plants. Carrie’s demonstrations and practical techniques will guide you in using a range of graphite leads, from the hardest to the softest, to create an artistic composition of your succulent specimen. This class is suitable for artists at intermediate and advance skill levels. Three days, January 28 – January 30, 9:30 – 3:30, snow date January 31, held in the Putnam classroom at The Gardens at Elm Bank, 900 Washington Street in Wellesley.   • Monday, January 28 – Wednesday, January 30, 9:30 am – 3:30 am – Dried Leaves, Branches, and Seedpods

    Make sure to collect your favorite specimens before snowfall to be the subjects of your winter composition of dried leaves, branches, and/or seedpods. Carrie Megan will conduct a three session class in the Putnam Classroom at The Gardens at Elm Bank, 900 Washington Street, Wellesley, and will show you how to use a range of different density pencil leads from 8H – 2B to create compelling compositions or studies and to render finely detailed drawings in graphite. This Wellesley College Botanic Garden class is for intermediate/advanced skill level.   • Mondays, January 29 – March 5, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm – Winter Fruits with Graphite and Wash

    Create a portrait of your favorite winter fruits, using undertones of graphite overlaid with transparent washes of watercolor. Through her guidance and demonstrations, Carrie Megan will help you achieve deliciously pleasing portraits. This Wellesley College Botanic Gardens class takes place on five Mondays, January 29, February 5, 12, 26, and March 5, with a snow date of March 12.   • Monday, April 4, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm – Ranunculus (or Roses) in Spring

    Shake off the winter cold with a Friends of Wellesley College Botanic Gardens art class on five successive Mondays, April 4 – May 9, from 9:30 – 12:30 in the greenhouses. Carrie Megan will teach you how to capture the delicate folds of a ranunculus with the use of a mid-range of graphite leads. Then, add a little spring color. With the use of pale “tea washes” you’ll learn how to enhance your finished drawing with a pop of soft color. Intermediate level and above. Friends price $225, nonmembers $275.   • Wednesdays, April 6 and 13, and Monday, April 11, 9:30 am – 2:30 pm – Let it Shine! Painting Reflected Light

    Learn the techniques of capturing reflected light on fruits and vegetables in your watercolor painting with this Wellesley College Friends of Horticulture studio focus taught by Carrie Megan, on three days, Wednesday, April 6, Monday, April 11, and Wednesday, April 13, from 9:30 am – 2:30 pm each day.  Under Carrie’s guidance, achieve the look of a shiny surface with layers of drybrush wash.  This studio course is for Advanced Beginners and beyond, and watercolor and drawing experience is required.  WCFH member price is $150, and non-members will pay $200.  To register, or for more information, call 781-283-3094, ext. 4, or email horticulture@wellesley.edu.  One of Carrie’s persimmon paintings is shown below.
