    For one spectacular day each year, SBN transforms the Rose Kennedy Greenway and the City of Boston into the nation’s largest local & sustainable food hub. Boston Local Food Festival is a free outdoor festival that showcases farmers, local restaurants, food trucks, specialty food producers, fisher folks, and organizations focusing on healthy food and fitness from New England. The festival also features lively chef & DIY demos, a seafood throwdown competition, diverse music and performances, family fun zone and more.

    Festival goers learn about the benefits of sustainably grown and produced food, shop the market, eat delicious local food, participate in fun, educational activities and exhibits, engage with top local chefs and enjoy local music.   • Monday, March 8, 7 pm – The River Cottage Cookbook Class

    British chef, writer, activist and teacher Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is widely known and respected for his dedication to creating beautiful dishes comprised of seasonal, ethically produced food and raising a general awareness of where our food comes from.   • Thursday, November 19, 6:00 – 9:00 pm – The Taste of Sustainable Food

    EcoLogic will hold its Annual Benefit on Thursday, November 19, from 6 – 9 pm, at the Boston Center for the Arts, Carol Dean Rehearsal Hall, 539 Tremont Street in Boston.  Come discover how EcoLogic is promoting environmentally-friendly agriculture and making a positive difference for rural farmers in Central America. Plus, experience the taste of New England as local chefs present delectable dishes made with sustainably-grown ingredients.  You will be joined by Frances Moore Lappé, author of Diet for a Small Planet, as well as one of EcoLogic’s field staff, who will speak about how our work with agroforestry is helping both the environment and poor farmers.  Admission: $50 ($40 for non-profit staff) www.ecologic.org/greenag.

  • Friday, October 16 – Sunday, October 18 – Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival

    The third annual Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival will be held from October 16 – 18, 2009 in Edgartown, Massachusetts. During this fall harvest celebration, leading Chefs will present to guests the best locally sourced fresh seafood, produce, and meats, while Vintners offer samplings of wines from around the world.

    The Festival is held in the charming, picturesque seaside village of Edgartown, Massachusetts. Renowned for its cottages set amidst historic homes of legendary New England whaling captains, guests stroll along brick sidewalks enjoying the galleries, boutiques, and wildflower gardens. Seminars are held Saturday morning and afternoon in select Edgartown venues and private clubs. The Friday night Opening Reception and Saturday afternoon Grand Tasting are held outdoors on the grounds of the Martha’s Vineyard Museum in a beautiful, elegant white tent lit by brass lamps in the late afternoon.

  • Sunday, September 20, 11 am – 4 pm – Urban Agricultural Fair in Harvard Square

    Join Cambridge Local First for its First Annual Urban-Ag fair being held on the very historic site of the first marketplace in Newtowne (1630’s). The 2009 Urban-Ag fair will bring to market some of the most incredible locally grown fruits and vegetables ever seen. Prizes will be awarded for the tastiest, the biggest, the most interesting, and in some cases the ugliest fruits, veggies, baked goods, honey, flowers, preserves, pickles and eggs! Cooking demonstrations from local chefs, gardeners, and “Cambridge School student-growers” will be held throughout the day. Come to sample recipes and/or to stock up on the bounty of our harvest from our local farmers markets, get tips from local experts on composting, community gardening, rain barrels, and bee-keeping! All events are free, open to the public and family-friendly. Kids are encouraged to enter to win Student Prizes in every category!   • Wednesday, September 2, 7 pm – “Chez Panisse Fruit” by Alice Waters

    Written by Alice Waters, one of America’s most influential chefs, “Chez Panisse Fruit” is one of a series of books which sparked a culinary movement.  Chez Panisse, one of the country’s best restaurants, became a focal point for local, conscientiously produced foods.  The restaurant spawned a collection of respected cookbooks which feature essays, beautiful illustrations, and, of course, delectable recipes.  In this class, Stir’s chefs will present a smattering of amazing sweet and savory fruit dishes using produce from Massachusetts local farms.  Enjoy simple, seasonal, rfefined cooking at its best while gathering lessons on how to shop at markets and cook seasonally.  Class is held Wednesday, September 2 at 102 Waltham Street in the South End beginning at 7 pm.  The cost of this session is $135.  Sign up by calling 617-423-7847.
