More than thirty camera clubs and groups throughout New England compete in New England Camera Club Council competitions. For rules and more information click HERE. Below is a winning submission, Bee on Dahlia, from our friend Vicki Saltonstall of the Chestnut Hill Garden Club. Vicki is a past President of The Boston Committee of the GCA, and most importantly, a Garden Club of the Back Bay wreath customer.
The Chestnut Hill Garden Club’s Centennial Garden Tour will take place on Saturday, June 6 from 12 noon – 4:30 pm, rain or shine. All gardens are located in the Chestnut Hill Historic District and feature many older estate gardens redesigned by some of today’s well-known landscape architects. A lovely meandering walk along quiet streets in the district will provide access to all the gardens. Your tour will end at an historic property, with a large garden of extensive rooms.
“The front walk is framed by wisteria and acers which leads to the ‘New Dawn’ rose room bordered with eleven trellises, inspired by those in the Bois de Boulogne. There are espaliered fruit trees surrounding the garden of white and purple carrots, heirloom mustard greens and various chicories.”

The Chestnut Hill Garden Club will present a luncheon talk by Julie Moir Messervy on September 30 at noon in the clubhouse of the Putterham Meadows Golf Course, 1281 West Roxbury Parkway, Brookline.
Ms. Messervy is an innovative leader in landscape and garden design theory and practice, the author of six books, and the principal of Julie Moir Messervy Design Studios in Saxtons River, Vermont. Her studio is currently working with the Arnold Arboretum in the redesign of the Bradley Rosaceous Collection. The title of her talk is “Home Outside: Creating the Landscape You Love.”

On Wednesday, April 14, The Boston Committee of the Garden Club of America will host the Spring Lecture Luncheon at The Country Club, 191 Clyde Street, Brookline, with guest speaker Tupper Thomas, Administrator of Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York, who will speak on “Continuing the Olmsted Legacy.” Also, the 2010 Boston Bowl will be awarded this year to two outstanding individuals, Betsy Shure Gross and Corliss Knapp Engle. Registration begins at 10:30 am, with an 11:00 am lecture, followed by lunch.
Appointed in 1980 as the first administrator of Prospect Park, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, Ms. Thomas is responsible to the Commissioner for planning and overseeing the $100 million dollar capital restoration of Prospect Park.
The meeting is open to members of the fourteen member and affiliate member clubs of The Boston Committee: Beacon Hill Garden Club, Garden Club of Buzzards Bay, Cambridge Plant & Garden Club, Chestnut Hill Garden Club, Cohasset Garden Club, Fox Hill Garden Club, Milton Garden Club, Noanett Garden Club, North Shore Garden Club, Piscataqua Garden Club, Garden Club of the Back Bay, Garden Club of Brookline, Junior League of Boston Garden Club, and the Manchester Garden Club, and their guests.
