  • Friday, December 4, 5:00 – 7:30 pm – Holiday Marketplace Cocktail Party

    The Berkshire Botanical Garden will host a Holiday Marketplace Preview Cocktail Party on Friday, December 4, from 5:00 – 7:30 pm.  This is your chance to do some early buying of handcrafted wreaths, holiday decorations, seasonal blooms and greens, herb products, crafts and gift items.  The Holiday Marketplace itself begins Saturday, December 5 and runs through Sunday, December 6, from 10:00 am – 5 pm.  This event is part of Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas celebration.  Admission on Saturday and Sunday is free, but there will be a charge for the Cocktail Party.  Call 413-298-3926 for details and reservations.

  • Saturday, December 5 – Sunday, December 6, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm – NABB’s Annual Christmas Tree Sale

    The Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay will hold its Annual Christmas Tree Sale at the Clarendon Street Playground on Saturday, December 5 through Sunday, December 6, from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.  NABB Director Chris Mitchell will once again bring in fresh-cut balsam fir trees from the State of Maine, with all proceeds benefiting The Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay.  Local deliveries are available.  If you would like an extra tall tree, please call Lois Harvey at the NABB office (617-247-3961) before Thanksgiving to put in a special order.  For more information, log on to www.nabbonline.com.

  • Saturday, November 7, 2-4 pm – Holiday Floral and Decor Demonstration

    The Millis Garden Club invites you to a Holiday Floral and Decor Demonstration this Saturday, November 7, from 2 – 4 pm, at the St. Thomas Large Hall/Rectory, Route 109, Millis, Massachusetts (between 972 and 984 Main Street).  Master Floral Designer Barbara Wysk of Wysk Designs will create beautiful arrangements suitable for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and all arrangements will be raffled off.

    Barbara’s world is flowers.  Her sense of design and her eye for color is extraordinary.  Her mind runs full of creative thoughts 24/7.  She’s ingenious on recycling objects found around the home into her designs. Her motto is “If it holds water, it’s fair game” and she will demonstrate that during this program.
    One does not have to be a floral arranger to enjoy this program. She will offer many tidbits of information so that everyone can incorporate something into their upcoming holiday tables.

    Festive holiday savories and sweets will be served.  $5 donation at the door suggested.

  • Friday, November 27 – Friday, December 4 – Festival of Trees

    Beginning November 27 and continuing through December 4,  the Massachusetts Horticultural Society will hold its first Festival of Trees. Decorated Christmas trees of all sizes and styles will fill the Hunnewell Building. The trees, all “near real” will be decorated by a myriad of groups, societies and clubs. There will be a “Trustee’s Tree”, a “Volunteer Tree”, a “Master Gardeners” Tree, a “Garden Club” Tree, “Children’s Trees” and many, many more!  For further information, log on to www.masshort.org.

  • Friday, November 6 – Sunday, November 8, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Christmas at The Crosby Mansion

    Built in 1888, “Tawasentha” is located on Crosby Lane off Route 6A across from Nickerson State Park in Brewster.  On Friday, November 6 through Sunday, November 8, The Nauset Garden Club will Deck the Halls with Christmas at The Crosby Mansion.  Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door, and may be purchased at Hyannis Country Gardens, at Agway in Orleans, Chatham and Dennis, at Puritan in Hyannis or Chatham, at Nory’s in Orleans, and at the Brewster General Store.  To get to the Mansion, take Route 6 South to Exit 11, follow Route 137 to Brewster.  Take right turn on Millstone Road and follow to Route 6A.  Take a right onto 6A and follow for 1/2 miles.  Crosby Lane will be on your left.

  • Tuesdays, October 6, 13, 20 & 27, 6:30 – 8:30 pm – Flower Design with Al DeLuca

    Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston, Massachusetts is sponsoring a series of floral design workshops with Al DeLuca, A.I.F.D., A.A.F., Flor-Al’s Inc.

    On October 6, enjoy Designing with Fruits and Vegetables.  Fruits and vegetables add exciting color, texture and focal interest to a floral design.  Learn how to select produce, condition it, and place it in an arrangement for long lasting pleasure.

    October 13 brings a session entitled Autumn Arrangement.  Incorporating the bounty of color in New England, participants will create a beautiful arrangement utilizing the richly hued floral product available during the autumn season.

    The next workshop, Trans-seasonal Arrangement, takes place on October 27. This class is designed to help you make an arrangement that will be appropriate for Thanksgiving and can be transitioned into Christmas.  The arrangement will include both fresh and permanent materials.

  • Saturday, September 26, 11 am – 3 pm – Ferns of the Blue Hills

    The Blue Hills Reservation is the largest preserved natural area in eastern Massachusetts. It has quite a few spots that are rich in ferns. Join the New England Wild Flower Society and instructors Don Lubin and Raymond Abair on Saturday, September 26 at 11 am. They plan to  travel a new route and see more than a dozen fern species, including dramatic large displays of Virginia chain fern, ostrich fern (below), and Christmas ferns.     Looking to pick your own blueberries, raspberries, apples, peaches, pumpkins, vegetables, etc.?  Log on to www.pickyourown.org and search for a farm near you.  There are Christmas tree farms, corn mazes, picking tips, easy canning directions, canning supply locators, equipment guides, and recipes.  Make strawberry jam, blueberry pie, ice cream – the site is updated daily.  Readers post comments.  Links give directions, and information on whether the farm is organic, whether credit cards are accepted, and hints for dressing for the occasion.  Some farms offer eggs and chickens as well.  You can search by product or location.  Enjoy the harvest experience and meet your farming neighbors.  The website provides a page for every state in the US and six other country pages, plus lists of fall festivals, Halloween festivals, and special events.
