  • Fridays, June 18, July 16, and August 20, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm – Cocktails in Great Gardens of the Berkshires

    The Berkshire Botanical Garden has arranged for a series of Friday evening visits to spectacular private gardens featured in the Rich Pomerantz’s beautiful book, Great Gardens of The Berkshires. Enjoy this rare opportunity to roam these private spaces with the gardeners themselves while enjoying wine and hors d’oeuvre in the beautiful waning light of the summer day. The book’s creators will be in attendance. For advance reservations contact call the Garden: 413-298-3926. The parties will all take place from 5 – 7 p.m.    Admission is limited. Berkshire Botanical Garden Members $20, non-members $25; all three for $50/65.

  • Wednesday, May 26 – Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts Annual Meeting

    Please join President Linda Jean Smith at the 83nd Annual Meeting, “The Green Fields of Summer,” Wednesday, May 26 at The Holiday Inn, 31 Hampshire Street in Mansfield, Massachusetts.  Registration begins at 8:30 am, followed by your choice of one of three workshops:  “Awards, Flower Shows & More”, “The Meeting Will Come to Order, Please” and a Victorian Tussie Mussie Workshop.  Following the 10:00 am Call to Order, there will be the presentation of awards, a Judges Council Flower Show Viewing, a Social Hour and Boutique Shopping, the Awards Luncheon, and a Floral Design Program at 2:15 pm with Gloria Freitas-Steidinger, Master Flower Show Judge and White House and International Designer (See one of her designs pictured below).  The meeting will adjourn at 3:15 pm.  For full registration forms and material, check the most recent Mayflower, or log on to www.gcfm.org.

  • Thursday, October 1, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. – Say It With Flowers

    Please join the ALS Association on Thursday, October 1st for the Fifth Annual Boston Say It With Flowers, hosted by Red Sox wives Ashley Papelbon and Kelli Pedroia.  This year the event is being held at the beautiful Mandarin Oriental, located on Boylston Street in Boston.  Enjoy a wonderful floral arranging class, luncheon, cocktail reception, and live and silent auction. Fox 25’s Kim Carrigan will once again be serving as the Mistress of Ceremonies! Guests will check in from 9 – 10 a.m., the floral arranging class will take place from 10 – 11:30, and the wine reception and silent auction will be held from 11:30 – 12:30.  Lunch begins at 12:30 with the keynote speaker and Live Auction.

    All proceeds benefit ALS research efforts worldwide and local patient services throughout Massachusetts.  ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a devastating neuromuscular disease that usually strikes at random. First symptoms can include trouble gripping, tripping, general clumsiness, and in some cases, slurred speech. As the disease progresses, it takes away a person’s ability to walk, speak, move, swallow and breathe, usually in just a few years. There is no known cause, no cure, and no effective therapies.
