  • Tuesday, October 27, 8:30 am – 3:15 pm – Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts Fall Conference

    Please Join Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts President Linda Jean Smith on Tuesday, October 27, for the Fall Conference entitled “Evergreen.”  The Fall Conference will be held this year at the Andover Country Club, 60 Canterbury Street, Andover, Massachusetts.

    The day will begin at 8:30 am with registration, coffee and boutique shopping.  At 9:00, your choice of workshops will begin: “Coffee with a Master Gardener,” “Plant Native with Meg Moore,” and “So You Were Elected Treasurer, Help!”

    At 10:00, President Smith will call the official meeting to order.  Sandra Sears and Joyce Bakshi will speak on planning and planting a Children’s Garden, and Janet Macunovich of the Practical Gardening Institute and the University of Michigan will speak on “The Collector – Engaging Harmony from Intriguing Diversity.”  The speech will be followed by a social hour and more boutique shopping, then the Awards Luncheon and Presentation of Awards.

    At 2:15, the final presentation will be “The Horticulture of Design,” a floral design program with award winning designers showing and explaining Tapestry, Pot-Et-Fleur, Collections vs. Displays, and more.

    To register, send your name, address, telephone, email, Club affiliation, and a check made out to GCFM,Inc. to Yvonne Capella, 16 Bell’s Brook Road, Lakeville, MA 02347.  The cost is $30 for the lunch (please note chicken or fish on your check), $15 for the morning program, and $3 for one of the morning workshops (again, please specify Master Gardener, Plant Native, or Treasurer).   • Saturday, September 12 – Yankee District Rose Show and Lobster Fest

    The Yankee District of the American Rose Society announces its Fall Rose Show and Lobster Fest, to be held Saturday, September 12 at the First Congregational Church of Yarmouthport, 329 Main Street (6A) in Yarmouthport.  Contact Oz at ozrose@comcast.net for times.  A bed & breakfast next to the First Congregational Church is holding rooms: contact www.colonialhousecapecod.com and mention the rose event.  The rose show will be in very close proximity to Grays Beach, the location of the Lobster Fest.  In case of bad weather, the Lobster Fest will be held in the Church Hall.  The price of the Lobster Fest will be $40, and includes chowder, 1 1/2 lb. lobster or a 16 oz grilled New York steak, native steamers, mussels, corn on the cob, onions, red bliss potatoes, linguica, and watermelon.  Send your check, specifying lobster or steak, to Audrey Osborn, 12 Scotch Pine Farm, East Harwich, MA 02645.  You may also call 508-221-6734 for more information.

  • Wednesday, August 12, 2 – 4:30 pm – Fertilizers and Soil Amendments – What Are Your Favorite Recipes?

    This summer’s Ecological Landscaping Association Roundtable will take place Wednesday, August 12, from 2 – 4:30 pm, at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive, Boylston, Massachusetts.  Panalists M.L. Altobelli, Roger Sturgis, and Michael Talbot, who together bring more than 80 years of accumulated experience to ELA’s Roundtable, will discuss Fertilizers and Soil Amendments – What Are Your Favorite Recipes?   • Friday – Saturday, July 10 and 11, 10 – 4 – Seaside Gardens Tour

    The Rockport Garden Club presents Seaside Gardens, a tour of fifteen private Rockport seaside gardens, on Friday and Saturday, July 10 and 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Ten stops provide access, and each garden offers unique plantings and styles.  Most of the gardens are on the waterfront along Rockport’s spectacular coastline, while others feature ocean views.  Perennials, refreshments, and original art will be offered for sale at designated tour sites.  All proceeds will be used to maintain Rockport’s town gardens and to fund civic projects and scholarships.  This is a rain or shine event.  Admission is $25 in advance (call 978-546-2250 or 978-546-7871).  Tickets may be purchased at Toadhall Bookstore, 51 Main Street, Rockport.  For further information,  you may email Elaine Hassler at e.hassler@comcast.net, or log on to www.rockportgardenclub.org.
