    Betsy Williams, a renowned gardener and herb grower, will demonstrate how to use container gardening with herbs and flowers to enhance your daily life. In this Pepperell Garden Club event on Wednesday, April 9, beginning at 7 pm at the Pepperell Senior Center, 37 Nashua Road in Pepperell, she will show us how herbs and flowers can be used in cooking, potpourri, and floral arrangements to add beauty, flavor, meaning and fragrance to seasonal celebrations. $5 fee. Learn where and how to grow the garden you’ve always wanted at the Boston Center for Adult Education, 122 Arlington Street, on Saturday, August 10, from 11 – 2:30.     Deborah Trickett, MCH, and owner of The Captured Garden, will speak at Weston Nurseries of Chelmsford, 160 Pine Hill Road in Chelmsford, on Saturday, April 28, beginning at 2 pm. Deborah is an award-winning designer whose work has been featured in The Boston Globe, in Garden Gate Magazine, and on the TV show New England Dream Home.  She is a frequent lecturer at the Boston Flower & Garden Show as well as at the Philadelphia International Flower Show.     The Andover Garden Club will hold a meeting, open to the public, on Tuesday, April 3, beginning at 10 am at South Church, 41 Central Street in Andover.  A $5 suggested donation is requested. Garden designer, writer, and lecturer Donna Lane, speaking on Creating Lush Containers, will demonstrate how to create lush container gardens that will be the envy of the neighborhood. She will discuss color, texture, form, mass, and scale; how to select plants; the best soil for planters; which plants are best suited to containers; professional secrets; and use of accessories.

  • Thursday, August 18, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon – Late Season Container Gardening

    Get past the potted chrysanthemum and a pumpkin for your front porch this fall. With summer winding down, it’s time to jazz up those tired container plantings you’ve been watering since June. Discover native plants that carry color, texture and form into the fall and learn tips on design, maintenance and over-wintering. Then assemble and plant your own container under the instructor’s guidance. BYOC–bring your own container. Containers and plants available at a discount for New England Wild Flower Society class participants that day, Thursday, August 18 from 10 – 12 at Garden in the Woods in Framingham. If you have a patio, porch, or windowsill you can experience the pleasures of gardening from spring through fall. In this class, we’ll learn about where and how to grow the flowers you’ve always wanted and get ideas for new and exciting plants. This Boston Center for Adult Education class will cover containers, soil, feeding and disease control, varieties of plants, growing conditions, and more. Every student will leave with their very own potted, starter plant and the skills to create a little garden oasis in the city.
