    The Herbal Holiday Gifts Workshop at Berkshire Botanical Garden on December 6 from 2 – 4 is an opportunity to make rich and diverse herbal gifts for the holidays, or other occasions, feel connected with the gift giving process, and nourish another person by crafting something special for them from the Earth.You are offering your loved one the opportunity to dip into that vibrant, natural health by giving them a handmade herbal gift that will support their well-being. These gifts are so much more special than what you can find in a store. They are novel, enticing, fresh, and low-cost once you have the skills.

    Workshop leader Nicole Irene holds a master’s degree in fine art and two herbal certifications from Dandelion Herbal Center and Sage Mountain Botanical Sanctuary. She is a Reiki-trained ordained minister and has a love for local farms and sustainable, organic agriculture. She enjoys cooking nourishing meals and experimenting with her own herbal preparations at her home in Stockbridge.   • Saturday, December 10, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon – CraneExplorer: Coastal Holiday Crafts

    This holiday season, give a gift from the sea. Beach treasures make beautiful holiday ornaments, jewelry, and keepsakes. Join this Trustees workshop at Castle Hill on the Crane Estate, 290 Argilla Road in Ipswich, on December 10 from 10 – noon to learn fun holiday craft ideas and make some coastal crafts with our coastal education team. Bring your own shells and beach treasures and we will provide the craft supplies and inspiration!

    CraneExplorer events are designed to appeal to families with children ages 5-12 while giving their parents a great opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Crane Estate. These hikes and interactive education programs cover less ground to accommodate smaller strides and have more frequent stops to look, listen, and learn from our CraneOutdoors guides. Interactive education programs include hands-on activities to engage learners of all ages.

    Family pricing is for one “average” nuclear family (approximately 2 adults and 2 children).   • Saturday, December 18, 10:30 am – 12:00 noon – Make Your Own Aromatherapy Heat Pad

    Join The Trustees in the heated greenhouse at the City Natives plant nursery in Mattapan on December 18 from 10:30 – noon for a hands-on herbalism class, learning how to make your own aromatherapy heat pad. Charline Xu, a local herbalist, grower, and educator will walk through the sensory benefits of different herbs and essential oils, and how to best incorporate them into your heat pad. All of the materials for making your heat pad will be provided – you only need to microwave at home for therapeutic use! Homemade heat pads, or the class it self make a great holiday gift.

    Candles, tea blends, salves and other products from Charline’s mobile apothecary, @rootsaboveground will be available for sale onsite. Participants will be invited to explore the grounds of City Natives with a cup of hot herbal tea.

  • Saturday and Sunday, September 11 – 12, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Pebble Mosaic Flower Pots

    Learn the art and craft of mosaics using natural colored pebbles. This Berkshire Botanical Garden two day workshop on Saturday and Sunday, September 11 and 12, will cover mosaic techniques on a 3 dimensional object. Consider materials, including adhesives, grout, mosaic materials and base surface. Participants will explore various design concepts for producing both abstract and patterned designs. Following a demonstration, complete a flower pot mosaic using techniques learned. (Students will let projects set overnight and complete them the following day. For those unable to attend the follow up session, instructions and material will be provided to finish at home.)

    Judy Boschetti is an Educator at Berkshire Botanical Garden. She instructs youth activities at the Garden and is a serious home gardener. She is experienced in a wide range of garden crafts including mosaic making.  The cost ($40 for BBG members, $45 for non members) includes materials.  Bring heavy rubber gloves.  This workshop is suitable for beginners.  To register, log on to www.berkshirebotanical.org.

  • Saturday, November 21, 10:00 am – Gifts from the Garden

    Come to Old Sturbridge Village on Saturday, November 21, beginning at 10 am, for another in its Garden Thyme programs.  Roberta McQuaid will conduct a class entitled “Gifts from the Garden.”  Who doesn’t love a homemade gift?  Use the next month to get busy crafting simple, garden inspired gifts, including teas, sachets, potpourris, and the like.  Meet at the Visitor Center, and you will be led to the setting of this workshop.  For more information, log on to www.osv.org.

  • Thursday, November 12, 5:30 – 7:30 pm – Wild Foraged Wreaths

    The Trustees of Reservations will hold a special workshop at the Long Hill Horticulture Center on Thursday, November 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Using unusual evergreens, blueberry twigs, cones, berries, mosses, bark, and lichens from Long Hill, expert floral designer Bonnie Stafford will lead this botanically inspired workshop. Learn about the natural materials, enjoy the wreath making demonstration, and then create your own exquisite foraged wreath. All materials supplied.  Trustees members $28, non-members $35.  To register, call 978-921-1944, x 4018, or email bzschau@ttor.org.  For directions to Long Hill, log on to www.thetrustees.org.
