    Explore the huge variety of native trees, shrubs, and woody vines. Learn which species grow well in shade, which support local wildlife, and how you should stagger your plantings for continuous bloom, fruit production, and fall color. We’ll discuss growth characteristics, cultural requirements, and best horticultural uses. The course will include lectures and walks in the Garden in the Woods, 180 Hemenway Road in Framingham, as well as a field trip to The Arnold Arboretum.     Celebrate the summer solstice at Garden in the Woods in Framingham while enjoying craft beer, great music, and drink-themed demonstrations. You won’t want to miss this special summer night on the longest day of the year! Somerville’s Aeronaut Brewing Company will provide seasonal craft beers and discuss how plants are used in the brewing process. Dan Jaffe will identify native plants for beverages and teach you how to make cocktails such as the sassafras storm. Stroll the Garden while enjoying libations, nature, and music. The ticket price of $25 (NEWFS members) or $30 (nonmembers) includes all the festivities and one craft beer. Additional drinks will be available for purchase.     Join New England Wild Flower Society’s Dan Jaffe for a free pollinator-themed walk at Minton Stable Community Garden and Park at 110 Williams Street in Jamaica Plain. Learn which plants offer the most for beneficial pollinators from caterpillars, to bees, to butterflies, to birds. Emphasis will be placed on all stages of the pollinators’ life cycles. We will discuss already existing plants as well as brainstorm additional species that could fit in this garden or in your own.
