  • Saturday, July 11, 11:00 am – 3:30 pm – New England Daylily Society Show & Sale

    The New England Daylily Society welcomes the public to a display of extraordinary daylilies, highlighting the wide variety of sizes, forms, colors, and patterns grown by daylily enthusiasts from the New England region. Every year, hybridizers introduce the latest and greatest of new cultivars, adding to the more than 88,000 already registered varieties. Mid-July is peak season for daylily bloom in our area and therefore the perfect time to showcase the best in Hemerocallis, the scientific name for daylily. Up until the morning of the show, society members don’t know which flowers they will be bringing since each bloom lasts for only one day and you can never be sure which flowers will be open. Come see the show and vote for your favorites! Sales tables will be open (cash or check only) and expert growers will be there to answer your questions.   • Friday, July 26, 10:00 am – 3:30 pm – A Day with Daylilies: Watercolor Workshop with Betsy Rogers-Knox

    Capture the graceful, large blossoms of Hemerocallis, Latin for “Beauty for a Day.” In this one day Hollister House step-by-step workshop on July 26 from 10 – 3:30 the focus will be on portraying the colorful blossoms using a variety of watercolor techniques including layering washes of vibrant color. Queen of the summer garden, the daylily dazzles with colors ranging from soft and nuanced to bright and bold.

    All levels welcome. Limited to 12 participants. A materials list will be emailed with your registration confirmation.

    Please bring a bag lunch – water, soft drinks and snacks will be provided.

    The watercolor workshops at Hollister House Garden, 300 Nettleton Hollow Road in Washington, Connecticut are taught by Betsy Rogers-Knox. Betsy received a Certificate in Botanical Illustration from NYBG in 2006. Her work has been widely exhibited in the United States and at the Royal Horticultural Botanical Art Show in London where she was awarded the Silver Gilt Award.

  • Wednesday, August 8 – Friday, August 10, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Drawing Daylilies in the Garden

    Capture the beauty of daylilies and other flowers that grow at Berkshire Botanical Garden. Sit amongst the daylilies and bring their beauty to life on the page of your sketchbook. Bring along a camera to document what you draw and see. In the classroom explore ways to enhance your field studies, bring more depth to petals and leaves and record their vibrant colors applying a variety of graphite and colored pencil techniques. Create a final page of garden flowers.

    Carol Ann Morley is an illustrator and dedicated teacher of botanical illustration working in Dover, NH. She founded the Botanical Art Illustration Certificate Program at the New York Botanical Garden and teaches illustration there and at other botanical gardens.

  • Saturday, July 14, 11:00 am – 1:30 pm – Daylilies and Their Friends, and Saturday, July 14, 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm – Daylily Show

    On Saturday, July 14, from 11 – 1:30, Debbie Carpenter will give a free with admission presentation entitled Daylilies and their Friends, showing perennials that make good companions in a daylily landscape. The beginning of the presentation will discuss general daylily information. Following the presentation Debbie will give the ever-popular demonstration on dividing a daylily clump. Immediately following the demonstration there will be a FREE raffle of the divisions from the demonstration to those in attendance. The event takes place at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive in Boylston, Massachusetts, and more information may be found at www.towerhillbg.org.

    Debbie Carpenter is a retired high school biology and horticulture teacher, NH master gardener, and life-long home gardener. Her undergraduate degree is from UNH, where she also took post graduate work in horticulture. Since retiring, she has discovered the nearly perfect perennial, the modern hybrid daylily.

    The class will be followed immediately by the Daylily Show presented by the New England Daylily Society from 1:30 – 4.     On Saturday, July 16 beginning at 11:30 am at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, The New England Daylily Society presents an exhibition where daylily enthusiasts from all over New England show their extraordinary, best grown, best groomed daylily flowers. Enjoy the educational programs offered in the theater. Also on hand will be several people selling daylilies, and a membership table to join the American Hemerocallis Society.

  • Saturday, July 25, 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm – The Daylily Show

    The Daylily Show returns to Tower Hill Botanic Garden on Saturday, July 25, and is open to the public from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Come see hundreds of the finest daylilies grown in New England. Divisions based on size and form will be judged by experts. The exhibition, presented by the New England Daylily Society, is a rare opportunity to view the incredible diversity of daylilies, the most popular and easiest to grow perennial, and to participate in raffle drawings as well as a workshop on how to divide a daylily clump. While on site, visitors can also explore Tower Hill’s 175 cultivars and three distinct species of daylilies interspersed throughout the formal gardens.

    Admission to Tower Hill not only includes the flower shows, but access to the impeccably-maintained formal garden areas, as well as the gift shop, art gallery, and restaurant. For children there are easy trails, blooming flowers, butterflies, frogs, the vegetable garden, scavenger hunts, and more to explore. The nonprofit is located at 11 French Drive in Boylston.     The New England Daylily Society will present a Daylily Exhibition at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive, Boylston, Massachusetts, on Saturday, July 26, where daylily enthusiasts of New England show their best grown, best groomed daylily flowers. The show will feature hundreds of cut flowers of daylilies in their breathtaking variety of form and color. A limited selection of choice daylily plants will also be for sale. The exhibition is included with regular admission to the Garden. Entries accepted from 7:30 am – 10:45 am, and the show is open to the public from 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm.     What flower says “summer” more exquisitely than a daylily? In this two-day Tower Hill Botanic Garden workshop on Saturday and Sunday, July 26 – 27 from 10 – 4, artist/illustrator Helen Byers will demonstrate the use of colored pencils to create a luminous, detailed portrait of this graceful perennial. Studying the forms and habits of leaves, stems, buds, and blossoms, we will practice techniques for achieving accurate color, value, and proportion. All levels welcome!
