  • Tuesday, October 14, Tuesday, January 13, and Tuesday, April 14, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon – Designing Workshops

    The Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts will present a three part design workshop in 2014/2015, on Tuesdays, October 14, January 13, and April 14, in the Hunnewell Building of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society’s Elm Bank, 900 Washington Street in Wellesley.  The fee for all three sessions is $135, which includes all materials and instruction.  If a registrant cannot make any workshop, he or she may designate another to take his or her place, or may send someone to take the flowers and container home.

    All attendees will need: clippers or floral snippers, a notebook, a box to carry the arrangement home, and a clean-up bag.  If Wellesley schools are closed for snow, the workshop will be rescheduled to the next day.  Mail your check, made out to GCFM, Inc., to Fluffy Winner, PO Box 457, West Falmouth, MA 02574.  Include your name, address, Garden Club name, telephone number, and email address.

  • Wednesday, May 26 – Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts Annual Meeting

    Please join President Linda Jean Smith at the 83nd Annual Meeting, “The Green Fields of Summer,” Wednesday, May 26 at The Holiday Inn, 31 Hampshire Street in Mansfield, Massachusetts.  Registration begins at 8:30 am, followed by your choice of one of three workshops:  “Awards, Flower Shows & More”, “The Meeting Will Come to Order, Please” and a Victorian Tussie Mussie Workshop.  Following the 10:00 am Call to Order, there will be the presentation of awards, a Judges Council Flower Show Viewing, a Social Hour and Boutique Shopping, the Awards Luncheon, and a Floral Design Program at 2:15 pm with Gloria Freitas-Steidinger, Master Flower Show Judge and White House and International Designer (See one of her designs pictured below).  The meeting will adjourn at 3:15 pm.  For full registration forms and material, check the most recent Mayflower, or log on to www.gcfm.org.

  • Thursday, January 14, 6:30 – 8:30 pm – Design Workshop for Home Gardeners

    Explore principles of garden design and develop a plan for a specific area of your yard during this five session class. In this beginner-level design class, you will explore the importance of line, scale, circulation, unity, and repetition as the organizational components of a coherent garden. You’ll also consider finer details such as color, focal point, depth, layering, and connecting indoors to outdoors. Christie Dustman, designer, APLD, will use before-and-after examples of projects she has completed to illustrate the design process. You will be required to draw a base plan for your site and identify your wish list of features. In analyzing your own and your classmates’ base plans and needs, you will practice the process of design and then begin to apply principles to your site plan. Christie will then lead in-class reviews, soliciting solutions from students and suggesting her own. You will leave class with a plan in progress from which to continue your design exploration. This class is primarily about garden space, and, as such, will not include garden design, though some key plant elements may be discussed.   • Tuesday, October 20, 10 am – 12 noon – Design Workshop

    Sign up for a series of three hands-on workshops for beginning and intermediate flower arrangers.  The Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts is sponsoring the classes, to be held at the Espousal Center, 554 Lexington Street, North Waltham, MA on Tuesdays from 10 am to 12 noon on October 20, April 13, 2010, and May 11, 2010.  This series differs from the series beginning on October 14 because it is truly participatory.  The fee for all three sessions is $105, which includes all materials and instruction.  No refunds are offered if you are unable to attend, but you may designate someone to attend in your place, or ask a friend who is attending to collect your flowers and container at the end of class.  You must supply clippers, a notebook, and a clean up bag.  Please mail your check, made out to GCFM, Inc., to Maureen Marshall, Registrar, 79 Morton Street, Holliston, MA 01746.   • Wednesday, June 3 – Thursday, June 4 – Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts Annual Meeting

    Please join President Celeste Wilson at the 82nd Annual Meeting Wednesday, June 3rd through Thursday, June 4 at The Westford Regency Inn & Conference Center, 219 Littleton Road, Westford, MA 01886.  Registration begins Wednesday at 2:30 pm, followed by a design workshop “Summer Elegance” with Thelma Shoneman.  At the 5:30 Cocktail Reception and 6:30 dinner meet honored guest Renee Blaschke, President of the National Garden Clubs.  Thursday’s activities begin with coffee and boutique shopping at 8 a.m., a speech by Peter Alden entitled “Changes in Flora and Fauna, Understanding Invasives”, and Julie Lapham with a design presentation “Hats Off to Our Presidents.”  Following the Awards Luncheon, Presentation of Awards and Installation of Officers and President’s Message, the meeting will adjourn at 3:15.  For full registration forms and material, check the most recent Mayflower, or log on to www.gcfm.org.
