  • Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4 – Taste America – Boston

    The renowned James Beard Foundation is coming to Boston. On Friday, November 3 beginning at 6 pm at the Taj Boston, enjoy a dinner created by Taste America All-Star Daniel Boulud of Bar Boulud (New York City), Local Star Karen Akunowicz of Myers + Chang (Boston), Pastry Chef Maura Kilpatrick of Oleana Restaurant (Cambridge), and Host Gurminder Gidda of Taj Boston (Boston).  Reception Tastings created by Carolyn Johnson of 80 Thoreau (Concord), Michael Lombardi and Kevin O’Donnell of SRV (Boston), Juan Pedrosa of Yvonne’s (Boston), Cassie Piuma of Sarma (Somerville), and Marc Sheehan of Loyal Nine (Cambridge). The Guest Master of Ceremony is Jenny Johnson, Producer and Co-Host of NESN’s Dining Playbook.

    Tickets (starting at $275) are available now on line at www.jamesbeard.org. The James Beard Foundation is proud to donate a portion of the evening’s proceeds to the James Beard Foundation’s Taste America Scholarship Fund. From April 1 through May 15, 2018 local culinary students are invited to apply through jamesbeard.org.

    Two free demonstrations will also take place over the weekend. On Saturday, November 4 at 10:00 am, Daniel Boulud will conduct a cooking demonstration at Sur La Table at Copley Place, followed by a book signing at 11.  At noon, Karen Akunowicz will take over for another hour of cooking demonstrations, and she will sign books at 1 pm. Tickets are essential since space is limited, and reservations will be taken at www.jamesbeard.org starting Friday, October 20.

    Join the James Beard Foundation at The Langham, Boston (250 Franklin Street) on Friday, October 28 for a night of culinary stars benefiting the work of the Foundation.  The menu will be created by John Besh, a Taste America All-Star from Besh Restaurant Group in New Orleans, local favorite Ana Sortun of Oleana, and Host Chef Mark Sapienza of The Langham.  Guest Emcee is  Jenny Johnson, two time Emmy award winning producer and co-host of NESN’s Dining Playbook.  The reception will feature tastings by Karen Akunowicz of Myers & Chang, Irene Li of Mei Mei Group/Brookline, Peter McKenzie and Susan Regis of Shepard/Cambridge, Michael Scelfo of Alden & Harlow/Cambridge, and Jeremy Sewall of Row 34/Boston and Portsmouth.The James Beard Foundation is proud to donate a portion of the evening’s proceeds to the James Beard Foundation’s Taste America® Scholarship Fund.   • Tuesday, January 5, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Wicked Tales of the Sea and Other Fishy Business

    The Boston Center for Adult Education has assembled a spectacularly seaworthy crew to steer the course for a lively down-to-earth conversation on Tuesday, January 5, from 6 – 8, about the state of the fishing industry in New England and beyond. Dave Marciano, Captain of the FV Hard Merchandise, was just another salty fisherman from Gloucester trying to feed the world until the National Geographic Channel show Wicked Tuna made a him a reality television star. Jim Turner, of Turner’s Seafood, has spent a lifetime dedicated to the business of fish. Join Billy Costa, co-host of NESN’s Dining Playbook as he leads a deep dive into the passions that drive these men and the work that they were born to do. It’s going to be wicked awesome! A reception will follow, hosted by Turner’s Seafood, and featuring delicious bites of the freshest, best-tasting, locally sourced seafood in New England.     Mayor Martin J. Walsh, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, and The Friends of Copley Square welcome the holidays with the annual Copley Square Tree Lighting on Monday, November 30, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.  The free event will feature appearances by Mayor Walsh, “Dining Playbook” host Jenny Johnson, Santa Claus, and Rudolph along with live entertainment including members of the Boston Pops Brass Ensemble, Berklee College of Music’s co-ed contemporary a cappella group Pitch Slapped, “The Voice” contestant Brittany Butler, and a holiday sing-along. In addition, the US Postal Service will unveil its new holiday stamp. The festivities continue with a family reception from 6 – 7 at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel.
