  • Saturday and Sunday, May 22 and May 23, 10 – 5 – Bonsai Weekend

    Come to Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive, Boylston, Massachusetts on Saturday or Sunday, May 22 and 23, from 10 – 5, and enjoy Bonsai Weekend, The Art of the Potted Plant.  The exhibit will be in the Stoddard Education and Visitors Center, and is sponsored by The New England Bonsai Society.  Gorgeous displays of specimen bonsai plants, with guided tours, lectures, and programs on bonsai culture will be part of the celebration.  Discover the world of bonsai – the art of growing trees in miniature.  Have you bought or received a bonsai and it died? Come out and learn how to keep your bonsai alive and thriving.  If you can raise a houseplant, you can grow a bonsai.   • Wednesday, March 3, 9:00 am – New Harmonies in Container Gardening

    The Powisset Garden Club presents this program, open to the public, on Wednesday, March 3, beginning at 9 am at the Dover Town House, 5 Springdale Avenue in Dover, MA.  Katherine Tracey is co-owner of Avant Gardens, a small specialty nursery in Dartmouth, MA.  They grow a wide variety of uncommon plants, with an emphasis on tender perennials.   Kathy has been selecting uncommon plants for the container displays at Avant Gardens for over a decade.  Her years of experience have allowed her to refine the list to the best and easiest choices for easy care for plant combinations.  This slide presentation will introduce you to many new cultivars and start our creative juices flowing.  For additional information log on to http://maclubs.esiteasp.com/powissetgardenclubofdover.

  • Sunday, December 13, 1:00 – 3:00 pm – Gibson House Museum Holiday Open House

    The Gibson House Museum  invites you to its Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 13, from 1 – 3 pm.

    The Gibson House Museum is the only museum in Back Bay, preserved as it was lived in by three generations of the Gibson family (1859-1954).  Opened as a museum in 1957, the house tells the story of daily life in the Back Bay from the mid-nineteenth to early twentieth century.  The Museum also displays its collection of Victorian and Edwardian decorative arts. The Gibson House Museum is located at 137 Beacon Street, Boston, MA 02116 (between Arlington and Berkeley Streets.)

  • Saturday, September 26, 11 am – 3 pm – Ferns of the Blue Hills

    The Blue Hills Reservation is the largest preserved natural area in eastern Massachusetts. It has quite a few spots that are rich in ferns. Join the New England Wild Flower Society and instructors Don Lubin and Raymond Abair on Saturday, September 26 at 11 am. They plan to  travel a new route and see more than a dozen fern species, including dramatic large displays of Virginia chain fern, ostrich fern (below), and Christmas ferns. Wear long pants for poison ivy and bring a lunch and hand lens.  Participants limited to 15, fee $32 for members of NEWFS, $36 for nonmembers.  To register, call 508-877-7630, or log on to www.newfs.org.
