    Boston Community Gardens will offer a garden tour and a master gardener question and answer once a month in a different community garden, sponsored by The Trustees of Reservations. The first will happen May 15 at the Forbes Street Community Garden in Jamaica Plain, followed on June 5 from 5:30 – 6:30 at the Chilcott Granada Community Garden in Roxbury, July 30 from 5:30 – 6:30 at the Lydon Way Community Garden in Dorchester, August 8 at 10 am at the Eagle Hill Community Garden in East Boston, September 26 at 10 am in the West Springfield Community Garden in the South End, and an October event, date to be announced, in the Woolson Community Garden in Mattapan.   • Friday, June 30, 6:30 pm – Dorchester Weather: A Play About Climate and Change

    Dorchester Weather is an original play about climate and change, led by Dorchester resident, theater artist and educator Jaronzie Harris, in partnership with the Environment Department of the City of Boston. It is the culmination of a year long process that engages Dorchester residents in an exploration of environmental issues that are disproportionately impacting the community. There will be food, music, and interactive activities. Come share your thoughts and ideas on June 30 at 6:30 pm, on the corner of Norfolk and Woodrow, and dive deep into the implications of climate change in Dorchester. Admission is free.   • Thursday, January 16, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm – Doherty-Gibson Playground Community Meeting

    The Boston Parks & Recreation Department is holding the first in a series of community meetings for Fields Corner neighbors and Doherty-Gibson Playground users to provide feedback on proposed designs for the park. Learn about the project scope and timeline and share your thoughts. The meeting will be hald on January 16 at 6:30 pm at the Viet-AID Community Center, 2nd Floor, Suite D, 42 Charles Street in Dorchester.   • Tuesday, August 14, 5:30 pm – Neponset Nature Sketching

    Learn from a local artist Anne Schmalz how to put to paper what you see in nature, on Tuesday, August 14, beginning at 5:30 pm.   • Through Mid-September, 2011, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm – Franklin Park Zoo’s Seasonal Butterfly Exhibit

    Visitors will once again be able to stroll through Franklin Park Zoo’s tented outdoor exhibit, filled with hundreds of free-flying, beautiful butterflies! Don’t miss this tranquil experience, which features garden beds, a waterfall, pond, and soothing music. Hours are 11 – 4 (Monday – Friday) and 11 – 5 (weekends.) Admission $16 for adults, $13 for seniors, $10 for children 2 – 12, children under 2 free.   • Thursday, December 10, 6:30 pm – Franklin Park Photohistory Book Signing

    Meet author Julie Arrison on Thursday, December 10, at 6:30 pm, as she talks about the research and issues she uncovered while researching, collecting photos, and writing the new Franklin Park book. She’ll sign copies which will be sold for $22.00 (great for holiday gifts), at the Franklin Park Golf Clubhouse, 1 Franklin Park Road, Dorchester.  Julie is talking about problems and solutions in park management and design over the course of the park’s 130 year history. You’ll learn about how city officials, the broader public, and the Olmsted and other design firms influenced the park’s different stages of development and growth.   • Saturday, October 24, 5:30 pm – Eighth Annual Pumpkin Float

    Watch spooky pumpkins float down Davenport Creek.  Participants are invited to bring a 6 – 8 inch pumpkin carved at home to float.  The event will take place at Pope John Paul II Park, Gallivan Boulevard Entrance, 751 Gallivan Boulevard, Dorchester, and registration is required by calling 617-542-7696, or emailing info@bostonnatural.org.  Only those bringing pumpkins and those with children are required to register to make sure there are enough floats and treats for all.

  • Saturday, October 24, 1 – 4 pm – Fall Family Fun

    Historic New England’s nearby Pierce House in Dorchester, Massachusetts will be the site of Fall Family Fun on Saturday, October 24, from 1 – 4 pm.  Enjoy craft activities and other hands-on opportunities connected to harvest time and the history of the Pierce House as a working farm. Families can make a leaf rubbing, design a pressed leaf card, practice spinning and weaving, and grind corn. Take a step back in time with Colonial clothing, toys, and games.
