    Join Historic New England on November 18 from 10 – 3 for the Fourth Annual Eustis Estate Holiday Market. Enjoy a festive atmosphere and get in the holiday spirit at the 1880s estate. This open air market features a variety of local craftspeople selling unique holiday gifts including jewelry, fiber art, and foodstuffs.  The Eustis Estate is located at 1424 Canton Avenue in Milton.

  • Sunday, November 1, 10:00 am – 11:00 am – Eustis Estate Landscape Tour

    Get a new perspective of the Eustis Estate as you enjoy the seasonal splendor walking through this beautiful property abutting the Blue Hills Reservation. This guided tour explores fields, woodland, and gardens as you learn about the landscape and history of the property. The tour also examines the exterior architecture of the house and other original buildings built between 1878 and 1902. 

    Bring comfortable walking shoes and be sure to dress appropriately for the weather.

    Advance tickets required. Landscape tours do not include admission to the house. (Note that guided tours of the mansion require advance tickets. You can register for house tours here.)

    Saturday and Sunday, November 3 and 4, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm – Second Annual Blue Hills Great Estates Fall Foliage Weekend

    Enjoy fall’s riot of color at peak season by visiting three historic estates built in the Blue Hills. The Eustis Estate, Wakefield Estate, and Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate present special events throughout the weekend of November 3 and 4. Tickets to view the foliage at each location are $5 for members of Historic New England and $10 for nonmembers. Visit all three and get a free program voucher to redeem at one of the estates through December 2018.

    At the Eustis Estate:

    Landscape Tours: Hourly from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Get a new perspective at the Eustis Estate with this thirty-minute guided tour. Explore the fields, woodland, and gardens and learn about their history. The tour also examines the exterior architecture of the house and other original buildings built between 1878 and 1902. Bring comfortable walking shoes and be sure to dress appropriately for the weather.

    Fall Craft Workshops: Drop in between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Make an autumn-themed craft and bring home a reminder of the beautiful fall colors. Included with Eustis Estate admission. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

    $10 nonmembers

  • Friday, September 14, 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm – New Takes on Historic Landscapes: Eustis Estate

    Often, gardeners think they must choose between archetypes of the “wild, native plant garden” and the “formal, classic garden,” but there are ecologically friendly ways to create an elegant effect. Utilizing the garden and extensive land at the Eustis Estate in Milton, this interdisciplinary walk and discussion on Friday, September 14 from 1:30 – 3:30 delves into historic landscape design and plantings and teaches participants different ways to replicate the visual sophistication of these gardens using native plants. The field trip is co-sponsored by the New England Wild Flower Society and by Historic New England. $24 for sponsor members, $28 for nonmembers. Register online at www.newenglandwild.org.

  • Wednesday, May 30, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm – Historic Estates and Gardens Landscape Tour

    Historic New England and the Massachusetts Horticultural Society team up to present a spring landscape tour of historic estates and gardens on Wednesday, May 30 from 9 – 3. The schedule is as follows:

    9:00 a.m: Explore the grounds of the 1793 Lyman Estate and the history of its greenhouses in a tour led by plant expert and Greenhouses Manager Lynn Ackerman. Dating to 1804, the Lyman Estate Greenhouses are among the oldest surviving in the United States. Explore them on your own after the tour.

    11:30 a.m. Enjoy the landscape of the Eustis Estate, an 1878 Aesthetic Movement masterpiece next to the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton, Mass. Take a guided tour exploring the fields, woodland, and gardens as you learn about the landscape and history of the property. The tour also examines the exterior architecture of the house and other original buildings built between 1878 and 1902.

    12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Enjoy lunch on the porch or within the main hall of the Eustis Estate mansion. The first floor of the house will be open to explore.

    End the day by joining Massachusetts Horticultural Society (Mass Hort) staff for a tour of their thirty-six-acre garden property, The Gardens at Elm Bank. See the historic and contemporary gardens, which display new plant varieties, diverse design concepts, and solutions to many home landscape challenges. The Elm Bank property is on the National Register of Historic Places and includes gardens designed by the Olmsted Brothers firm, and the Cheney-Baltzell Manor House designed by Carrère and Hastings of New York.
