Tuesday, September 10, 10:00 am – Garden Club of the Back Bay September Meeting: Tour of Garden in the Woods

The Native Plant Trust (formerly the New England Wild Flower Society) conserves and promotes New England’s native plants to ensure healthy, biologically diverse landscapes. Garden in the Woods is a botanic garden that showcases rare and common native plants in a woodland setting. The meadow garden will be in full late summer display on September 10, featuring gray goldenrod and New England aster. The Garden Club of the Back Bay is a member supporter of the Native Plant Trust.

Club members will meet at 9 am in front of 330 Beacon Street to carpool to the Garden, located at 180 Hemenway Road in Framingham. The tour will begin at 10, and we will return by 2 pm. Club members have received an email notification and must rsvp by September 3 to Karen Solberg. Click here if you have not already done so, and let her know if you need a ride, are willing to carpool, or plan to meet the group at Garden in the Woods. She is also arranging for an optional lunch with two choices ($15) of sandwiches. Karen will send details when you respond.

  • Wednesday, September 16 – Sunday, September 20 – New England Gardens in Early Fall

Masses of blue and gold daisies set New England gardens aglow in September.  Flowering grasses, drifts of asters, heleniums, boltonias, Japanese anemones, and sedums contrast with the luxuriant growth of tropicals.  Gardens wake up after the late August lull as the long, golden days of fall begin New England’s best season.  Horticulture Magazine’s  five-day tour, led by Horticulture’s Nan Sinton, will bring you to private gardens known for their fall beauty.  From coastal gems in Little Compton, Rhode Island to secret gardens in Vermont and a chance to learn from the masters when you visit with Wayne Winterrowd and Joe Eck at their remarkable country garden, North Hill, you’ll immerse ourselves in the best of fall in New England.

    Space is limited.
