Monday, December 4 – Thursday, December 7 – Garden Club of the Back Bay Holiday Wreath Making

Pastor Ingo R. Dutzmann and his parish will again host our Club for wreath making on the lower level of The First Lutheran Church of Boston, 299 Berkeley Street (on the corner of Berkeley and Marlborough Streets). We are very, very grateful. Please note that a core group will set up the space on Sunday, December 3  (anyone who can lend a hand is welcome – email info@bostonflora.com for set up times) and we will be ready to work first thing Monday morning – Monday participation by as many of you as possible is critical to our success. The hours are as follows:

    Monday, Dec. 4 – 8:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. (decorating)
    Tuesday, Dec. 5 – 8:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. (decorating and delivery)
    Wednesday, Dec. 6- 8:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. (decorating, delivery)
    Thursday, Dec. 7- 8:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. (decorating, delivery, clean up)

Please come to the side door on Berkeley Street. We’ll post a sign. Coffee and baked goods will be available each morning, and catered lunches will be delivered all four days. Dried materials and fresh greens can be delivered to the Church no earlier than Monday, December 4. Please have all decorations “cleaned down” – branches cut down, dead leaves removed – so we can contain the mess we inevitably make. Delicate materials can be laid flat in sweater boxes or gently stacked in cardboard containers. We are going to need as many dried items as we can collect, and we especially want interesting fresh evergreen boughs and holly.

Bring clippers and scissors if you have them, labeled with masking tape for ease of identification. Aprons are also a good idea. Dress comfortably! We need everyone’s help, whether you decorate, deliver, organize, make telephone calls confirming delivery, or sweep. Contact Francine Crawford at 617-859-8865 (info@bostonflora.com) or Margaret Pokorny at 617-536-2920 (MPok384@gmail.com) if you have specific questions, and contact Catherine Bordon at 617-480-8792 (catherinebordon@comcast.net) if you can take a two hour delivery shift. Otherwise, we’ll see you on Monday. If you still plan to order wreaths, send the order forms along as soon as you can, or order online at www.gardenclubbackbay.org. Please try to come for as many hours as possible, on as many days as you can spare – we need you, and you’ll have a great time. Thank you.

  • Monday, February 13, 9:30 am – 11:30 am – Flower Arranging with Donna Morrissey

Monday, February 13, 9:30 am – 11:30 am – Flower Arranging with Donna Morrissey

The Garden Club of the Back Bay has added a special workshop to its 2017 program schedule.  Member Donna Morrissey, an award winning flower arranger, graciously has agreed to teach a hands-on workshop on Monday, February 13 beginning at 9:30 am at The First Lutheran Church of Boston, 299 Berkeley Street.  So that Donna can give each participant guidance and valuable critiques, the class must be limited in size to twenty members.  The materials cost will be $35 per person, vases provided.  However, if you are just interested in watching the process and listening to Donna’s advice, you may “audit” for $5.  Light refreshments will be served.  Please email slgsmith58@gmail.com if you plan to attend, and you will be sent information on suggested equipment to bring with you, and information on payment. Deadline for registration is February 9.

  • Holiday Wreaths 2015 – Where We Are This Week

Holiday Wreaths 2015 – Where We Are This Week

There are many interesting garden related events taking place in the beginning of December, but luckily, many Garden Club of the Back Bay members and friends have decided to dedicate a portion of their week to our Annual Wreath Project, taking place today, December 7 through Thursday, December 10 at The First Lutheran Church of Boston. We’ll be decorating and delivering over 400 wreaths to friends and neighbors. While fully decorated wreaths are only available by advance order, a simple wreath with or without one of our signature bows may be purchased on site at the Church, which is located at 299 Berkeley Street, on the corner of Berkeley Street and Marlborough Street. Do stop by and view our operation if you are able, and put your name on our mailing list for next season. You can choose your ribbon and walk away with a fragrant holiday treasure. • Holiday Wreaths 2015 – Last Chance

Holiday Wreaths 2015 – Last Chance

If you link today to our on-line store, https://bostonflora.com/shop/, you will still be able to order a fully decorated holiday wreath from The Garden Club of the Back Bay, but on line orders close this weekend as we prepare our paperwork and begin loading in to The First Lutheran Church of Boston for next week’s decorating extravaganza.  If you have questions, email info@bostonflora.com. We heard from a friend who had moved to Washington, DC and began to look around for a local equivalent to provide her with a wreath, and couldn’t find any which matched the standard to which she had become accustomed.  Boston is lucky indeed to have us as a wreath resource, at such competitive prices.  So act now – remember, net proceeds go directly to our street tree projects in the Back Bay and in surrounding neighborhoods. We’ll be officially announcing our Clarendon Street tree initiative soon, and your support is critical to our success.

    Holiday Wreaths – Official Deadline

We know many of you still want to order a Garden Club of the Back Bay wreath but haven’t quite recovered from Thanksgiving yet.  Luckily, you may click on line at https://bostonflora.com/shop/ and order your wreath right now!  Today is our official deadline for fully decorated wreaths, but since Wreath Week is not starting until December 7 we’re willing to stretch that date through this week.  Plain wreaths and wreaths with bows will be available, while supplies last, on site next week but we take no fully decorated wreath orders once we get to The First Lutheran Church of Boston, and we make no exceptions – just ask some of our own members!  Don’t be left out, and order today.

  • Holiday Wreaths 2013 Season Kickoff

    Holiday Wreaths 2013 Season Kickoff

While you may think we’re crazy to think about holiday wreaths in October, we actually think about holiday wreaths all year long.  In summer and fall we clip and dry natural materials, buy ribbon on sale, schedule venues, design order forms and advertisements, and generally obsess about the beautiful creations we will make in December.  This year, our wreath project will be in full swing December 1 (set up at The First Lutheran Church of Boston), then, on Monday December 2 – Thursday December 5, we will produce and deliver hundreds of glorious wreaths for our neighborhood and beyond.  All proceeds benefit the trees of Back Bay, and help fund our many charitable projects.  Order forms will be mailed soon to customers from the past two years, and to our membership.  If you are not on that list, you may print the order form from this website, email info@bostonflora.com and request one (we can send it by email or snail mail as you prefer,) or call 617-859-8865 and leave your name, address and telephone number.   Over the next weeks we will feature pictures and information on our many styles, each of which is custom designed for the customer.
