  • Friday, November 17, 6:30 pm – Timeless Beauties

    On Friday, November 17, beginning at 6:30 pm at the Community Life Center near the First Baptist Church, 50 Parker Street in East Longmeadow, the Springfield Garden Club presents Timeless Beauties, a floral demonstration of designs through the century. Participating at the event, and designing in view of the audience, will be Heather Sullivan, AIFD, of Durocher’s Florist in West Springfield; Matt Flatow from Flowers, Flowers in Springfield and Bob Whitney, AIFD, long-time employee, now retired, from Springfield Floral Supply in Springfield.

  • Thursday, January 31 – Sunday, February 3 – Flora in Winter

    The Worcester Art Museum and Tower Hill Botanic Garden partner once again during Flora in Winter, a celebration of the impending arrival of spring.  At WAM, breathtaking flowers bloom in the galleries with stunning arrangements inspired by artworks.  At Tower Hill, with a nod to William Shakespeare, the arrangements reflect on quiet times of rest and contemplation, evoking dreams of the growing season and inspiring flower fantasies – creating A Midwinter’s Dream.  WAM’s presentation is generously supported by unum, Fallon Community Health Plan, and People’s United Bank.  Thursday’s opening party,  Flower Power at Flora Euphoria on Thursday, January 31 from 5:30 – 8, is $30 for WAM and Tower Hill members, $50 for nonmembers.   • Tuesday, November 6, 10:30 am – Have Scissors Will Travel

    The Acton Garden Club will present Have Scissors Will Travel, a lecture and floral demonstration with Ann McDevitt, on Tuesday, November 6 beginning at 10:30 am in Room 204, Acton Town Hall, 472 Main Street in Acton.  The public is invited.  Ann McDevitt is an accredited International Flower Designer and teacher, with over twenty years of experience.  For information, visit www.actongardenclub.org.

  • Sunday, June 19, 2:00 pm – 4:30 pm – 5 Grand Masters: European Fusion in Flowers

    On Sunday, June 19, from 2 – 4:30, you will have the opportunity to see International Grand Masters Alison Bradley (Scotland), Gregor Lersch (Germany), Brigitte Auzely (France), Carles Jubany Fontanillas (Spain), and Niels van Hemert (Holland) demonstrate cutting edge floral artistry at the Citi Performing Arts Center, Wang Theater, Tremont Street, as part of the 2011 World Flower Show.   • Tuesday, May 25, 10:30 am – 1:30 pm – Metro East & Metro West District Annual Meeting

    The Garden Club of the Back Bay, Inc. is a member of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts, Metro East District.  The Annual Meeting of Metro East and Metro West District Clubs will be held Tuesday, May 25, from 10:30 am – 1:30 pm at Elm Bank in Wellesley.  The meeting will feature a floral demonstration by a designer from Winston Flowers, along with a boutique, lunch and raffle.  The price for members of Metro East and Metro West clubs is $35 per person, and guests may attend for $40 per person.  To register, send a check payable to GCFMA Inc to Alisa Billings, 12 Woodridge Road, Dover, MA 02030, and please note your garden club affiliation, if any, on your check.  Garden Club of the Back Bay members will receive a notice, with car pooling information, in the mail soon.  Photo below by Karen Harvey Cox.

  • Sunday, April 25, 10:30 – 12:00 noon and 1:30 – 3:30 – Flowers in Our Life and Master Class with Els Teunissen

    As part of the Museum of Fine Arts’ Art in Bloom 2010, Els Teunissen will present a floral demonstration and illustrated lecture on Sunday, April 25, from 10:30 – 12 in the Remis Auditorium of the MFA, entitled Flowers in Our Life.  Later that afternoon, from 1:30 – 3:30, she will give a master class with hands on flower arranging instruction, with a class size limit of twenty.

    Els Teunissen is a renowned speaker in both the US and Europe.  She has arranged decorations for the Dutch royal family, the United Nations, and the Academy Awards, and represented the Flower Council of Holland at the Institute of Floral Design.

    Looking for an alternative to using flowers flown in from all around the world with a high carbon footprint? Are you trying to buy locally, or even create beauty with found materials? Join arranger Joan Parker for an entertaining program of innovation and delight with original flower designs.  The program is overflowing with new ideas, some gathered on her travels to Europe and South America.  Naturally Simple is a fresh look at virtually everything.  With Joan’s theatrical background and craftsman’s degree in metalworking, she has explored art and design on many levels.  Her zest for life and experience has led her into wild and interesting adventures.  This special program is co-sponsored by The Garden Club of the Back Bay and The College Club of Boston.   An optional lunch with our speaker ($20) will follow the meeting.  Registration required.     Meredith Waga Perez honed her aesthetic sensibilities in haute couture.
