    Art in Bloom returns to the MFA’s galleries on Friday, April 28, 2023. You won’t want to miss these beautiful interpretive floral arrangements of 45 artworks.   • Wednesday, January 12 – Friday, January 14, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Fundamentals of Form, Online

    Learn the keys to successful floral design and master the mechanics needed to create round, triangular, parallel, and crescent arrangements. Experiment with shape, line, and symmetry while composing beautiful, balanced creations. The New York Botanical Garden online program will take place January 12 – 14 from 10 – 4. The instructor is Nsombi Woodson. Nsombi Woodson is the founder of The Woodson Bloomery, an interactive floral art studio which teaches the artistic expression of floral design. In her 20 year career, her floral designs have been featured in the Kips Bay Decorator Show House, Elle Decor Magazine, Southern Bride Magazine, Coveteur, and Architecture Digest.

    Materials:
    For this online class, flowers will be shipped directly to your door! You will also need to purchase the tools and hard goods listed in the materials list linked below, which total approximately $100. You can substitute the vase(s) listed with any of similar width, depth and height.

    Steve Janivicus, one of the top 100 FTD florists in the country, will demonstrate his arranging skills at this Danvers Garden Club event on Tuesday, April 9 from 6 – 9, to be held at the Danversport Yacht Club, 161 Elliott Street in Danvers.  All arrangements will be raffled off at the end of the evening.  Coffee, tea and desserts will be served, and there is shopping at special boutiques.  Tickets $25, and reserved tables of eight or ten are available.  Contact Jacquie at 508-932-1320, or at Uconnmom09@verizon.net to reserve.

  • Saturday, October 13, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon – Make It & Take It: Basic Floral Design 101

    Instructor Laurie Marino will give a class at the Boston Center for Adult Education, 122 Arlington Street, on Saturday, October 13 from 10 – 12.  Tuition is $30 for BCAE members, $35 for non-members, and there is an additional materials cost of $18. Lose the bland bouquets and learn to create floral designs with flair! Using a step-by-step method, you will learn how to choose and process your flowers and what tools and containers work best to create arrangements that boast a distinctive visual appeal. We’ll explore the color, texture, and variety of spring flowers, and discuss the myriad styles of floral design, such as the English garden, Ikebana, symmetrical and asymmetrical design.  Register at www.bcae.org.

    Join Hazel Schroeder, Maureen Marshall, and Cathie Healey at Tower Hill Botanic Garden on Saturday, January 28, from 12 – 1:30. These highly decorated designers will teach participants how to create arrangements for each course of a progressive dinner party. They will use affordable flowers to create extraordinary arrangements to “wow” any guest. Enjoy tea, coffee and light refreshments as we watch and learn.   • Saturday, April 30 – Monday, May 2 – Art in Bloom

    Celebrate spring at this annual festival of fine art and fresh flowers on April 30–May 2! See the MFA’s galleries transformed by fifty extraordinary arrangements inspired by magnificent works of art. This year a highlight of Art in Bloom is the Art of the Americas collection, on display in its spectacular new wing.

    Art in Bloom is free with Museum admission; no reservations are required to see the floral arrangements and participate in most of the programs listed below.

    Family Day on Saturday, April 30, features storytelling, performances, and activities for children. On the evening of Sunday, May 1, there will be a special members-only viewing of the festival with dining, shopping, and spotlight tours in the galleries. On May 2 from 5 to 9 pm, the Museum throws open its doors to the greater Boston community for a free Monday evening Open House featuring entertainment, flowers, and art. Free gallery tours and floral demonstrations will be offered from Saturday through Monday, and Elegant Tea will be served on Saturday and Sunday afternoons (reservations required for Elegant Tea; call 617-369-4204).

    This year’s special events include an illustrated lecture and floral demonstration—as well as a flower arranging master class—presented by the renowned Nancy Clarke, former chief floral designer, The White House. Mrs. Clarke has created thousands of beautiful decorations and floral designs for six American Presidents and First Ladies, their families, and international dignitaries. For 30 years she designed everything from simple bud vases for the First Lady’s nightstand to elaborate, formal arrangements for state dinners. Her floral designs and holiday decorations have delighted kings and queens, heads of state, members of Congress and journalists, as well as thousands of White House visitors.
