  • Tuesday, November 17, 9:30 am – 12:00 noon – Harvest and Holiday Inspired Designs

    Join The Needham Garden Club on Tuesday, November 17 in the Community Room of the Needham Free Public Library, 1139 Highland Avenue in Needham. Julie Lapham will demonstrate her award-winning finesse as she composes several arrangements inspired by the bounty of the harvest and the upcoming holidays. She has been involved with flower arranging for 35 years and has exhibited widely throughout New England and beyond, including several international shows. Members and guests will have a chance to take home one of her designs that will use fruits, vegetables, flowers and foliage in elegant and new ways. Coffee, tea, and refreshments will be served at 9:30 a.m. The program, which is free, will begin at 10 am.

  • Tuesday, May 6, 10:00 am – Welcome to Spring and Summer

    On Tuesday, May 6 at 10 am, two favorite presenters, Elaine DiGiovanni and Linda Ladd, wrap up the Andover Garden Club year with their unique and delightful style of flower arranging in their ode to the seasons of spring and summer. These accredited Master Flower Show judges will display their many talents as they create six different designs representing these seasons, and lucky members may get to go home with one. Be sure to join them for this special pair of presenters and the annual meeting and luncheon. $10 donation requested.   • Wednesday, August 4, 11:00 am – 12:30 pm – MFA Workshop: Flower Arranging

    The Museum of Fine Arts Boston will hold a Flower Arranging Member Event Wednesday, August 4, from 11 am – 12:30 pm in the Riley Seminar Room.  Flower arranging demonstrations will be ongoing – drop in anytime during this event.  Get fresh ideas on how to realize the fine art of floral arranging at home from members of the MFA’s acclaimed flower team.  Stop by for a few tips or stay the full 90 minutes for an abundance of creative ideas.  Free tickets are required and available in person, online (www.mfa.org) or by phone on the day of the event beginning at 10 am.  Ticket limit is based on general admission privileges of membership.  If you are not already a member, you may join on line ($75 individual membership) or in person.

    The Florence Griswold Museum, 96 Lyme Street in Old Lyme, Connecticut, has planned an exciting series of special events to take place in and around its historic gardens.  All events are free with Museum admission, unless noted.

    June 11, noon:   Garden Luncheon
    Third annual garden luncheon featuring Pauline Lord of White Gate Farm. Lord speaks about the importance of eating locally grown food for both health reasons and to support local agriculture.  $100, reservations required.

    June 11 and 12, 9am-3pm:  Plant Sale
    The Museum’s volunteers, the Garden Gang, host a plant sale. The heirloom perennials and unusual annuals range from $5 to $50. Proceeds benefit the Museum’s garden projects.

    June 13, 1-5pm:  Make-A-Painting Sunday
    Visitors can pick up all the painting supplies necessary to make their own masterpieces in garden or down by the river. No experience necessary. In addition to the painting activity, visitors of all ages can enjoy garden-related fun. Today you can also make a painting using flowers, leaves, and twigs as brushes.

    June 15,  11am: Demonstration by the Garden Gang in the Landscape Center on
    The World of Composting.

    June 16, 11am- 3pm:  Guy Wolff Demonstration and Flower Pot Sale
    Meet the man Martha Stewart hails as the maker of her favorite flower pots. Guy Wolff, the master potter from Litchfield, known for creating functional art based on historic designs, demonstrates how he makes his hand-thrown pots. A selection of Guy Wolff Pottery will also be available to purchase.

    June 18 & 19, and June 25 & 26, 11am:  The Painted Garden, a Guided Tour in the Griswold House, and at 2pm, a walking tour of the gardens and grounds

    June 23, 11am:- Family Day Award-winning children’s author Page McBrier will read her book The Chicken and the Worm and teach kids how to make a worm farm for great garden composting.  Then, from 2pm – 4pm, kids learn to create a flower arrangement. Bring your own water-proof container.

    Donna Morrissey is a Master Flower Show Judge and former Chairman for Judges Council of National Garden Clubs.

    She is a Senior Associate of the Museum of Fine Arts and a Floral Designer and Design Instructor at the MFA.

    Donna is a member of the Garden Club of the Back Bay and the Wareham Garden Club. She is a popular presenter of Floral Design Programs and Workshops and has her own floral design business, Chestnut Hill Celebrations.

    The Gibson House Museum is the only museum in Back Bay, preserved as it was lived in by three generations of the Gibson family (1859-1954). The house opened as a museum in 1957, and tells the story of daily life in the Back Bay during the mid-nineteenth to early twentieth centuries.  The Museum also displays its collection of Victorian and Edwardian decorative arts.

Join arranger Joan Parker for an entertaining program of innovation and delight with original flower designs.  The program is overflowing with new ideas, some gathered on her travels to Europe and South America.  Naturally Simple is a fresh look at virtually everything.  With Joan’s theatrical background and craftsman’s degree in metalworking, she has explored art and design on many levels.  Her zest for life and experience has led her into wild and interesting adventures.  This special program is co-sponsored by The Garden Club of the Back Bay and The College Club of Boston.   An optional lunch with our speaker ($20) will follow the meeting.  Registration required.   • Wednesday, October 14, 10:00 – 12 noon – Designing Principles

    Please join The Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts for a series of three interactive design lecture/demonstrations on flower arranging at The Espousal Center, 554 Lexington Street, Waltham, Massachusetts.  The first session will be Wednesday, October 14, the second will take place Wednesday, January 27, 2010, and the final session will be on Wednesday, April 28, 2010.  Massachusetts designers, among the best in the country, will teach you what they do and how they do it – top secrets are often revealed.  Reservations are being accepted on  a first come, first served basis, and must be made in writing.  The total fee for all three sessions is $25 (what a deal!).  Make your check out to GCFM,Inc., and mail it with your name, address, telephone number, email address, and Garden Club affiliation to Robin Murphy, PO Box 3263, Wareham, MA 02571.  There is a registration deadline of October 1, so get on to this right now.
