  • Tuesday, March 21, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Gardens of the Gilded Age

    Come take an armchair tour of the gardens at the Newport Mansions, Vanderbilt Estate, Vizcaya, Untermyer Gardens, Nemours, and more. The Southbridge Garden Club presents Jana Milbocker on March 21 at 6 pm at the Charlton Public Library, 40 main Street in Charlton. Jana Milbocker is the owner of Enchanted Gardens, a landscape design firm in the Boston area. She is the author of three garden travel guides, the latest being The Garden Tourist’s Florida. She is past President of the Holliston Garden Club, and an active member of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts, Massachusetts Horticultural Society, and GardenComm International.   • Wednesday, July 20, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm – National Garden Club Flower Show: Cape Cod Legends

    This major New England flower show is presented at Heritage Museums & Gardens by the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts Southeastern District’s garden clubs and its award-winning Design Study Group. See beautiful, creative floral and botanical arts designs and educational exhibits! Flower show docents will be on hand to answer visitors’ questions and provide design details and know-how.

    This year’s theme of “Cape Legends” celebrates some of the Cape’s most famous people, with 13 creative and very diverse classes along with two educational exhibits, all displayed in Heritage’s spacious Heald Center. Entrance to the flower show is free with admission or membership. No advance registration required.

    Please note:  The “Cape Legends” Flower Show will open once judging is complete, around 1:00 pm.

  • Tuesday, January 25, 6:30 pm – Genetically Modified Plants: Friend or Foe? Online

    The Gardening Consultants Council, in conjunction with the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts. will sponsor a free January 25 Zoom lecture on Genetically Modified Plants: Friend or Foe? at 6:30 pm. The speaker is Gretel Anspach. Register HERE.

    Gretel is a Lifetime Master Gardener with the Massachusetts Master Gardener Association, a Trustee of Massachusetts Horticultural Society, and a recently-retired systems engineer for Raytheon. Gretel helped to establish and maintain two food production gardens that have provided fresh produce to the Marlboro Food Pantry for the last ten years.

  • Wednesday, January 19, 4:00 pm – Conifers are Living Sculptures, Online

    You are invited to join the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts for a free online lecture on January 19 at 4 pm with Christie Dustman. Conifers are unique, versatile and misunderstood plants for the garden. This lecture takes an in-depth look at what interesting cultivars of conifers can offer to modern gardens rather than being the blobs of the past.     Christie Dustman is the owner of Christie Dustman & Company, Inc., a small landscape design, maintenance and installation company in the Boston area. Christie has won design awards, teaches at many venues including the Arnold Arboretum, for the Garden Federation, garden clubs, the Boston Flower Show, and on the national stage, and has a personal garden showcased on national tours. In 2021, her private garden was featured in Fine Gardening Magazine.

    The Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts presents Nancy Costa with Holiday Designs for Your Home on December 10 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 320 Boston Post Road in Weston. $10, which includes a lucky raffle ticket. Register at www.gcfm.org. Nancy will demonstrate two fabulous holiday designs you can do at home.

    Nancy Costa is a National Garden Club Flower Show Judge. She has exhibited at Art in Bloom at the MFA Boston, and Heritage Museum and Gardens in Sandwich. She is a member of The Garden Club of Hyannis and the Norwood Evening Garden Club.

  • Friday, October 29 – Sunday, October 31 – Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts Show: Spirits of the Season

    The Central North and Central South Districts of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts, Inc. will be hosting “Spirits of the Season”—a National Garden Club Standard Flower show—at Tower Hill this fall. The show offers members of Garden Clubs in the New England Region and beyond an opportunity to exhibit floral designs, horticultural specimens, and educational exhibits with the intent to educate club members and the viewing public and stimulate interest in horticulture and floral design. In this year’s schedule, class titles such as “Bewitched,” “Mask-er-ade,” and “Haunting Delights” provide inspiration for creative expression following a whimsical seasonal theme. The show exhibits are judged and awards are placed. Free with admission to the Garden.

  • Wednesday, June 16, 11:00 am – Create Foundation Gardens That Say “Welcome Home” to Native Plants, Online

    The foundation garden need not be a bastion of imports such as pachysandra and boxwood. On June 16 at 11:00 am on Zoom, learn about design problems posed by the foundation area of buildings. Discover how native plants can enhance those highly visible settings. Understand that by using regional native plants you can create a habitat for birds and pollinators while creating an aesthetically pleasing design. Kathy Connolly will present the illustrated lecture. Register at www.gcfm.org. Free for members of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts.

    Check out Fun with Floral Design short videos with Margo Yie and Ruth Evans on the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts YouTube Channel. Right now, Autumn Flower Arranging Ideas include using hydrangeas, dahlias, grasses, alliums, and mums. Each clip runs from 2 – 3 minutes. You can subscribe, or simply watch, at your leisure. Each segment contains at least one good tip for enhancing your flower arranging skills.

  • Tuesday, September 22 and Wednesday, September 23 – Environmental School, Course 3 – Air and Related Issues, On Line

    The Living Earth Environmental School curriculum of the Federated Garden Clubs is divided into a series of four individual courses – The Living Earth, Land, Air and Water and Related Issues.  Registration is now open for Course 3, Series 3, Air and Related Issues, to be held in a virtual format using the Zoom platform. The school is open to garden club and non garden club members. The mission of the Environmental School is to teach environmental literacy to cherish, protect and conserve the living earth. The courses teach participants environmental literacy, appreciation of the natural world, encourages action for sustainable development and appreciation for the interrelation of all natural things. Particular emphasis is presently placed on land conservation, water conservation and air quality.

    This course is hosted by The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc., and the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts thanks them for organizing in the time of the pandemic.
