    Do you want to learn how to Star the Sun, add depth to your Landscape Images with the Aperture, how to use Filters, and how to create Panoramic Images? You will also learn to control Motion with the Shutter Speed. You will also learn how to use a Zoom lens to create the zoom technique. Bring your camera and lenses to this New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill class on October 29 at noon and learn how to create great effects with the equipment you already have.

Several of his images have been published in school text books. His favorite places to shoot are Acadia National Park in Maine, the Green Mountains of Vermont, and the Cape Cod National Seashore.

  • Saturday, October 16, 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm – Macro/Close Up Photography

    Spring, summer, winter, or fall, macro photography opens the door to a wonderful new world of photo opportunities. With instructor Steve McGrath as your guide, this Massachusetts Horticultural Society course at The Gardens at Elm Bank, 900 Washington Street in Wellesley on October 16 at 2 pm will show you ways to use your existing camera gear to make spectacular macro photographs. The close-up world is a magical place full of pattern, color, and abstract imagery. Flowers become abstract works of art; rusty doors become textured canvasses; stones become polished gems; butterflies and other insects can become sci-fi monsters. Instructed by Steve McGrath. $32 for Mass Hort members, $45 for nonmembers.   • Sunday, March 29, 10:15 am – 3:15 pm – Macro Photography Workshop – Postponed

    The close-up world is a magical place full of pattern, color, and abstract imagery. This Tower Hill Botanic Garden course on Sunday, March 29, from 120:15 – 3:15 will show you ways to use your existing camera gear to make spectacular macro photographs. During this workshop you will learn to sharpen your awareness of light on the landscape. If you are an intermediate to advanced photographer looking to fine tune your skills and expand your knowledge of photography then this course is for you. This course is ideal for the photographer with some knowledge of manual camera settings that want to take their abilities to the next level.

    In this intermediate level class at Tower Hill Botanic Garden on Saturday, July 15 from 9 – 2, Steve McGrath will show the various camera settings appropriate for Landscape Photography, utilizing your Shutter and Aperture settings for the best exposure. The class will also cover composition, focal length, depth of field, filters and the use of natural light. Tripods are a plus but not mandatory. After a presentation, we will head out into the Gardens to photograph and end the class with a critique of your work.

  • Sunday, January 22, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm – Taking Better Pictures with Your Digital Camera

    Are you still getting to know your digital camera and its features? Bring your camera to Tower Hill Botanic Garden on Sunday, January 22 at 10 am and learn when and how to use its special features, such as program mode, manual mode, aperture priority and shutter priority. We’ll also cover basic composition and best use of light for different situations. Students are encouraged to bring one or two samples of their previous efforts to share with other students.
