  • April 17 – April 18 – Global Days of Service, Earth Day 2010

    The Global Days of Service will feature Volunteer Actions by tens of thousands of global participants, from April 17 – 18, 2010. These projects in parks, beaches, schools and forests will focus on climate change solutions like tree planting, energy efficiency retrofits, water protection, urban gardens and forest restoration. Produced with the help of Earth Day Network, along with local community organizations and governments, the activities will address current challenges and will help cities and organizations streamline their energy needs, and ‘green up’ their communities. Suitable for individuals of all ages, including children and families, these activities encourage active lifestyles and healthful living, while also connecting volunteers with the green solutions.  This year marks the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day, and you may find more information about local events at www.earthday.net/earthday2010.

  • Saturday, November 14, 9:30 am – 1:30 pm – The Road to Copenhagen: Mini Conference on Global Climate Change

    The Cambridge Forum will sponsor The Road to Copenhagen: Mini Conference on Global Climate Change, Saturday, November 14 beginning at 9:30 am at the First Parish Church, 3 Church Street in Cambridge.  U.S. Congressman Ed Markey reflects on his ground-breaking legislation outlining the nation’s plan to reduce carbon emissions.  The latest data on polar ice melt and sea level change will be outlined.  A group of researchers, political leaders, and local advocates join in the discussion.

    As governments, scientists, and environmentalists prepare for the Copenhagen meetings to hammer out the next international agreements on global climate change, Cambridge Forum brings together a group of researchers,political leaders, and local advocates to discuss the issues that will be on the table in Copenhagen. Public health experts discuss the impact of warming on food production and movement of diseases. How is this global data relevant to local environmental groups? How can local groups co-ordinate their work, share best practices, and have a broader impact?

  • Sunday, November 1, 7:00 – 9:00 pm – Boston Night to Combat Climate Change

    Boston’s premier 2009 fundraising event showcasing New England’s leaders in the fight against global climate change will take place Sunday, November 1, from 7 – 9 pm. All proceeds from the event will go to organizations working to combat global climate change, including Oxfam America and National Resources Defense Council.

    Hosted by Worthy Causes, Inc. at the Cambridge Royal Sonesta, the Boston Night to Combat Climate Change event will feature big name speakers, networking opportunities, a silent auction, dancing, entertainment, and fine food and drink.

    The carbon footprint of the event will be measured and offset, and those in attendance will receive an event package containing earth-friendly products and information on ways to reduce their carbon footprint.

    The event will focus on raising awareness among the estimated 250-500 guests, while also celebrating the efforts of innovators working to protect the environment and combat climate change and its impact on poor people.
