  • Saturday, August 27, 9:00 am – 11:00 am – Grow Greens All Fall

    Not ready for the growing season to end? In this Boston Natural Areas Network hands-on workshop on Saturday, August 27, from 9 – 11, you’ll learn easy, affordable techniques for growing delicious salads into the cold months.   • Don’t Forget – Time to Collect

    We remind our members today that extra, interesting greens, seed pods, branches, holly, dried fruits and flowers, grasses, pine cones, and twigs in interesting shapes are all needed next week during wreath making days at The First Lutheran Church of Boston.  Below is a picture of Past President Sarah Monaco and Executive Committee Member Maureen O’Hara collecting last weekend in the Berkshires.  Please bring as much as you can to the Church, cleaned down if possible, for the decorators to use creating the beautiful wreaths, one of which is pictured below, bedecked with collected finds.

  • Monday, December 7 – Thursday, December 10, 8:30 am – 7:00 pm – Wreath Making

    Pastor Ingo R. Dutzmann and his parish will again host our Club for wreath making on the lower level of The First Lutheran Church of Boston, 299 Berkeley Street (on the corner of Berkeley and Marlborough Streets). We are very, very grateful.  The hours are as follows:

    Monday, December 7 – 8:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. (set up, training, + decoration)
    Tuesday, December 8 – 8:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. (decorating)
    Wednesday, December 9- 8:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. (decorating, delivery)
    Thursday, December 10- 8:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. (decorating, delivery, clean    up)

    Please come to the side door on Berkeley Street.  We’ll post a sign.   Dried materials and fresh greens can be delivered to the Church no earlier than Monday, December 7.  Please have all decorations “cleaned down” – branches cut down, dead leaves removed – so we can contain the mess we inevitably make.  Delicate materials can be laid flat in sweater boxes or gently stacked in cardboard containers.  We are going to need as many dried items, especially flowers, as we can collect.

  • Tuesday December 1 – Wednesday, December 2, 9:00 am – Greens Market Workshops

    Learn how to design extraordinary decorative wreaths and holiday accents, and at the same time, support the Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum’s holiday fund raising efforts, by crafting items for its Wreath Auction and Greens Market. Workshops will be held in the Coachman’s House. All materials supplied. No fee. Come either Tuesday, December 1 beginning at 9 am, or Wednesday, December 2 at 9 am, or both days if you are willing!

    Located in historic New Bedford, Massachusetts on a full city block of gardens, this national landmark was built for whaling merchant William Rotch, Jr. in 1834. Designed by Richard Upjohn, the House is one of the finest surviving examples of residential Greek Revival architecture.

    The Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum is so named for the three prominent families who resided at 396 County Street. The house and gardens chronicle 150 years (1834-1981) of economic and social life in the city, as reflected in the lives and stories of those who lived and worked at the property.

    Furnished period rooms display the decorative arts, furniture and belongings of the families and time frame. The Museum offers permanent and changing exhibits, lecture series, community and educational programs.

    A partner in the New Bedford Whaling National Historic Park, the Museum joins the city’s cultural and educational institutions in embracing, celebrating and learning from the rich legacy of this maritime community.

  • Friday, December 4, 5:00 – 7:30 pm – Holiday Marketplace Cocktail Party

    The Berkshire Botanical Garden will host a Holiday Marketplace Preview Cocktail Party on Friday, December 4, from 5:00 – 7:30 pm.  This is your chance to do some early buying of handcrafted wreaths, holiday decorations, seasonal blooms and greens, herb products, crafts and gift items.  The Holiday Marketplace itself begins Saturday, December 5 and runs through Sunday, December 6, from 10:00 am – 5 pm.  This event is part of Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas celebration.  Admission on Saturday and Sunday is free, but there will be a charge for the Cocktail Party.  Call 413-298-3926 for details and reservations.

  • Saturday, December 5, 10 am – 12:30 pm – Boxwood, Fragrant Greens and Berry Centerpiece

    Create a beautiful, long lasting fresh centerpiece for the holiday season at this workshop with Betsy Williams, taking place at Tower Hill Botanic Garden on Saturday, December 5 at 10 in the morning.  Choose an attractive pot or basket to fill with a lush arrangement of fresh boxwood, fragrant evergreens, California bay and rosemary, accented with sprays of eucalyptus berries, rose hips, pine cones and ribbons.  Greens arrangements are fun to make and, kept well watered, will last the holiday season.  Use your arrangement to decorate the dining table, entry hall, living room, kitchen, porch or doorstep.  Please bring clippers and an apron to class.  Cost $55 for Tower Hill members, $60 for non-members.  Register on-line at www.towerhillbg.org.
