  • Sunday, July 9, 10:30 am – 12:00 noon – Strawberry Bed Rejuvenation

    Old strawberry bed not so productive as you’d like? Always wanted a strawberry bed but don’t know where to begin?

    Visit Hannah Traggis at The Gardens at Elm Bank’s Seed to Table Garden, 900 Washington Street in Wellesley on Sunday, July 9 beginning at 10:30 am to learn how create new or rejuvenate old strawberry beds, and a simple technique to propagate new plants from old ones. Basic strawberry plant health and care will be discussed and you will get to practice your new technique and take a few plants home for your own garden.

She oversees the Seed to Table vegetable garden which produces more than 4,000 pounds of produce each year to support our educational mission and local food pantries.   • Saturday, April 22, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon – Seed Starting Workshop

    This April 22nd hands-on workshop at Elm Bank, led by Mass Hort Seed to Table Educator Hannah Traggis, will have you start your own seeds to take home for your garden. Through a series of demonstrations, you will learn the proper care and handling of a variety of young seedlings. You will also practice transplanting to promote the sturdiest and healthiest seedlings! Seeds and materials will be provided. Feel free to bring your own selection of seeds to plant. The class will be held from 10 – 12.

    Join Seed to Table educator Hannah Traggis every Sunday at 10 a.m.at Elm Bank, 900 Washington Street in Wellesley, now through Columbus Day, to explore our food system and discover the joys of backyard gardening. Learn skills like seed saving, harvesting, and preparing and preserving fresh foods. Each week will be different and connected to the season and natural growing. Craft your own take-away each week. This is a drop-in program, no pre-registration required.

    Mass Hort Members: Free, Non-Members: $5 Please note: there will be no Seed to Table programming on September 4.

  • Thursday, July 16, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm – Blending Herbal Teas

    Move beyond the commercial teabag and explore how to blend your own unique herbal teas. In this Massachusetts Horticultural Society class at Elm Bank on Thursday, July 16 from 7 – 8:30,you will learn how to create delicious, personal tea beverages and experience different techniques of making cold and hot water infusions. Steph Zabel, herbalist, ethnobotonist and educator, will review the art of choosing roots, leaves, flowers, and berries to make harmonious blends and will also discuss the health benefits of the herbs we use. Come prepared to sample lots of tea!

    Steph Zabel is an herbalist and educator based in Somerville, Massachusetts. For over a decade she has combined her passions for natural medicine, community outreach, and education. She holds a Master’s degree in ethnobotany and has completed several herbal apprenticeships including a three-year training in clinical herbalism. Prior to launching her herbal business, Steph began her professional career working in the botanical collections of the Harvard University Herbaria. Her current work focuses on teaching practical and inspiring herbal classes and offering dynamic wellness sessions for her clients. Steph is also the founder of HERBSTALK, Boston’s vibrant community herbal conference, through which she creates accessible educational opportunities for all plant enthusiasts!
